Both Cooling Fans Inoperative
Hi All,
I'm a long time reader, but first time poster. I have a '99TL that has an overheat problem. Both of my cooling fans fail to operate. When I turn on my A/C the passenger fan fails to come on. The driver fan will not come on when the temp is above half to 3/4 on the gauge. I have checked the fluid level, tried to burp the system the best I can given the radiator fans will not operate. I have tested the relays and checked the fuses. The fan blades spin freely, but I have not manually tested each fan by way of direct battery connection. Any ideas? Thanks for the great forum and look forward to your comments.

Yeah, Hey JayLTL....ya got the right idea, the fan motors may possibly be worn out, so either find a way to apply direct 12v or jumper the input sensor. It also very well could be a faulty ECT sensor switch that reads the coolant temp to activate the fans. Check the "DIY"s or try a search for pertinent info.

Thanks 3.2TLc! I did direct wire the fans to the battery and got nothing! Am I doing something wrong? I direct wired the fan motor input connector with alligator clips to both the positive and negative side of the car battery. I guess it could be possible that both could be failed. If both failed, is aftermarket fans at a local auto parts dealer (O'Reilly's) just as good as OEM? Thanks again!
