Blower Motor

I'm thinking the blower motor may be going bad in the car, which is a common problem on Honda/Acuras. When I turn it full blast at 60 on the climate control, its got a "rrrrrrrrrrrr" sound to it, somewhat noisy, but if you turn it to about 70 when its barely blowing you can't hear much of it at all, just a slight hint of a fan turning. Are these supposed to be this noisy? Seems like mine has recently gotten noisier. My warranty runs out in 2.5k miles and I'm wondering if I should get it back in there soon. I priced the part and its like $200 or so. I just hate the hassle of taking the damn thing back in after having to take it back twice because they didn't re-assemble correctly what they took apart. I kind of regret not buying the 7/100 bumper to bumper warranty on the car now b/c parts are unreal. I've owned 2 Civics and never needed them so I figured the same for this car. Too much electronic shit in these cars though and after reading these threads, I'm worried.

I had this or similar problem with my TL. In auto (full speed rpm, higher than 5th position of fan) blower made terrible sound. Just like the one that you described. Luckily my car was under warranty. What dealer found was cracked fan wheel/drum (that is not a propeller type, but the drum). That drum fan opened up from centrifugal forces on the highest rpm just enough to bang on the blower housing. Ones rpm would go down; blower would collapse and was whisper quiet.

They didn't replace the cabin filter; I read the directions on another post. If I can handle a front brake job, I can definitely handle replacing the cabin filter myself. I just hope the blower motor doesn't crap out. Last time with the civic after they cleaned it, it still made a decent noise so they replaced it....they didn't replace it this time. The cleaning took care of the loud noise at high fan speed though. I realize it will have a little sound of a fan if your car is silent or near that and on 70 when its turning just a little....as long as it doesn't start that loudness up again, I'm fine. Besides, I drive around with music loud anyway.
