Let them have their fun. They're just proud of their vehicles like we are over here. My guess is that the TL-S driver wasn't even trying. Maxima owner was all proud because he floored it and caught up to it. And he calls it a kill...

Question

I have a '01 maxima 5-spd. My guess it that the TL-S dropped down to 3rd on the take off and I know my 5th gear on the maxima could not handle that kind of quick acceleration. After driving both daily, I STILL think a race would be VERY close between my two cars.

Hey, we do it to them so I guess it is OK that they are doing the same. One thing I do know is my S is more luxurious than the Maxi-ma.

I merely laughed at his over-priced car and snickered at it's "performance.

I could only imagine what would have happened if i had dropped it down to fourth... or even the dreaded third gear

LOL... hahahaha... the TL-S was probably just going 80-85 at our SUPER LOW RPM of 2500ish.. and the poor maxima is probably reving it at 4000+ and he calls that a kill lol.. how sad

I'm just soooo amazed by the low rpms we have on the freeway going 80+ miles .. no wonder we get a 29mpg for freeways

This was my reply:

Re: Had TL-S for Breakfast
Are you sure you weren't dreaming or better yet you just whish you did. It was either an old lady driving the Type S or some stupid guy put a Type S enblem on a regular TL (seen those before) There is not way you can kill a type S, specially with the mods you have. Go to sleep again and dream of somthing else..... If it was all a joke....good LOLz.

Question

I don't know how in the world he pulled a way in 5th at 75 mph. I have a Maxima, currently looking at the TL-S, and at 75mph in 5th it barely accelerates. Third gear pulls for sure, even 4th at that speed, but 5th doesn't do a thing. It sounds like he's embellishing a bit.

Lets stay cordial about this. We already had our problems with the IS 300 board, I don't think we need a war with another board.

Hey let's not put down the Nissan Maxima even though our TL-S might be more luxurious and slightly faster. Maxima is still a fast four door sedan in its own class. Don't forget their V6 engine can do 0-60 under 7 seconds. That's not slow for a 4 dr sedan. The new 2002 Maxima and Infiniti I35 will be rated at 260hp with the 3.5 liter under the hood. For speed wise we got some competitions out there with many other cars.

dude--

c fut long? That's too funny! For those who don't speak Cantonese... that means a part of the human anatomy where the sun don't shine!

As for the Maxima... it's a good car with a great engine. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the engine in the Maxima rated one of the top 10 in some automotive mag? Hey-- great performance for the $$$ but too bad the rest of the car doesn't last as long. It's a shame Nissan workmanship isn't quite up to par compared to its other Japanese competitors (namely Honda and Toyota).

Hey derrick, you are funny!! It is private joke with some of my good friends. For the record I do like good looking women. I thought it was fun to use a weird screen name.

Yes you are right that the Maxima engine has been rated the top ten engine for quite a few years. Like I said before it is in its own class and it is a fast sedan.

Hey Bitium you are having too much fun over in the Maxima forum aren't you?

Soundspeed,

Can you please tell these guys to NOT go on other forums flaming everyone who just happened to beat THEIR car???

For crying out loud, TL-S and CL-S guys always go over to Maxima.org flaming on kill stories saying they're full of it when ironically it turns out that the performance of the 3 cars are actually VERY similar and kills either way are quite possible.

Your freakin boy BITIUM goes over to Maxima.org and posts this:

...but then when I follow up with this FACTUAL information that clearly shows that the performance of the two cars are VERY SIMILAR...

Originally posted by stevepake on Maxima.org

2) CL-S : 3510lb / 200whp = 17.55 lb/whp
3) MaxSE/5spd : 3199lb / 180whp = 17.77 lb/whp
4) TL-S : 3558lb / 200whp = 17.79 lb/whp
5) MaxSE/automagic: 3245lb / 170whp = 19.08 lb/whp
...all he does is just completely ignore that and go completely childish and make comments about how Maxima drivers "can't afford" a TL-S. Well, I could, and many Maxima drivers could too if they wanted to. The TL-S isn't THAT expensive of a car.

Guys like Bitium, and other guys like him from the CL-S board just give you guys a bad name. Seriously, there is now not a SINGLE Maxima driver over at maxima.org that has a positive opinion of you guys now. And the same thing on CL-S guys. And now I learn that you're having trouble with IS300 guys because of this same CRAP as well...

For the love of GOD, why can't you just congradulate someone on a kill, and then move on peacefully to race another day??

I love the TL-S! I think it's a great car.

But by doing this you guys are just giving yourselves, and your cars a bad name. Stereotypes are tough to break, but immature fools like Bitium are giving you guys VERY BAD RAPS on Maxima.org, and other boards as well...

Come on, we're all import enthusiasts here. Why can't we all just get along?

Grow up a little, Bitium.

Oh yeah, act all innocent now....please!!!! whatever. You don't have to bring it here, they could go over there and read the whole post. Plus I said that you bought an accord because you couldn't afford a TL.

See?

He's immature too and won't even fess up or apologize for uneccesarily causing a ruckus, nor will he even face the facts.

Before it was just the CL-S guys that Maxima.org was having trouble with, but now it's the TL-S guys (Bitium) and the bad rap and negative stereotype about Acura Type-S drivers is spreading to the TL-S too!!!

Give it a rest already and quit before the TL-S name gets too tarnished on YET ANOTHER automotive forum.

Why would I do that when I want to address the TL-S folks SPECIFICALLY?

Plus I said that you bought an accord because you couldn't afford a TL.[/b]
How the hell do you know that? Just because someone doesn't buy a "luxury" car doesn't mean that they can't afford one. That's pretty ignorant if you ask me... I could have very easily afforded one - TL-S isn't THAT expensive and I actually think it's a great value for what you get. At this stage in my life, however, I have better things to put money into than a luxury car, so I decided against a luxury make.

Derrick:

You're right about the engine. It has been rated as a top 10 many times over the last 10 years or so. I have about 160000 on my 96 and the engine is still running strong. I wish I could say the same about the transmission. My car is in the shop now getting the tranny removed for the 3rd time! Although I'm rough on my car, I would think a tranny should hold up better than mine has.

How are the trannies on the TLs in general?

stevepake,

a question about your numbers, but first:

yes, that was trolling. and yes, the maxima folks took it all a little too personal. my advice: ignore people who are saying silly things. life is too short.

Now, for a real question.
Carpoint says the Maxima engine is rated at 222hp at the crank, and you quoted 190hp at the wheels. That's an efficiency of 86%. The TL-S numbers (which look reasonable to me, though I don't really know) are 260hp at the crank, and 200hp at the wheels, or an efficiency of 77%.

That seems like a huge difference. Is the Maxima drivetrain really that much more efficient? Or is there a big boost due to the mods?

There are rational people over here -- as I'm sure there are rational people over there as well. Happy to have you visit!

they think that their car is al that. i just raced a 2000 maxima and it was notting special. i had to wait for him just to be close to me. no competition. just dont worry about the maxima. worry about the 260 hp maxima. now that's competition.

Alright guys knock it off. Both here and on other boards. The trolls from Max.org will now just use that as an excuse to start coming back here like they were months ago when the TL-S first came out posting trash, adn that just makes life harder for the mods and administrators unnecessarily. Plus it leads to hack attempts and other acts which will just hurt the board and its members.

As far as I and apparently the automakers and reviews are concerened the 2 cars are in different classes. One car competes with Accords and the other competes with the I30. If I wanted a Max i would have gotten one and no one can tell me how to spend the $$ I worked so hard for, so I wont do the same to others. If you want respect you have to give it, and if you want your opinions respected, respect the opinions of others.

As far as a stereotype about TL-S drivers is concerned, I could care less. I guess I should class all Maxima owners into one category based on all the trolls that were on this board over the last few months???? And believe you me, there were ALOT of them. Even before the car was even released they were here posting crapp posts and better yet just spamming the board.

Accord owners should follow suit I guess based on some of the guys who were booted off of H-A.net. Yes I mod the Accord forum there too. If you want to stereotype and classify me, go ahead be my guest, you'll just be wrong.
