Beat by a 03 Eclispe-WHY?!

Would you really call this a loss? Dude in front of me driving an 03" Eclipse. So the lights turns green and I'm following behind him gunning it until I can get in the lane next to him. I thought once I get an open lane I'm going around him like he's standing still. That never happened. He was always a half a car length ahead. What is up with that? You guys think I would have won had I been lined up with him at a light instead of behind him? I thought I could take an Eclipse hands down. And of course A/C was off, VSA off and in SS mode.

If it was a 2003 Eclipse V6 with the 5-speed, it would be close. You shouldn't be surprised. While they are not "fast," they are definitely not slow either.

Before I installed my Mods....I would walk away from some of the GT's and some I couldn't just like what happened to you! That GT must have had some Mods!!
Most of the stock GT's i have seen at the track are only running 15.0-15.3

Remember, though, track times are not real world times "racing" from a stop light.

Well, then you're luck and have a fast one . Between all of the CLs and TLs between the boards, you're looking at more running low 15's then high 14's. I ran a high 14 with an intake (14.8 and 14.9)... so stock probably would have been about 15-15.1 (considering an intake doesn't add that much)........

I feel you...Might have had an intake or some slight mods...
I had a guy roll up on me on the highway at around 65 or 70 and he gunned it and got the jump on me and I panicked...It took me to 85 to get back on par and I was leaving him by 100 or so...

They are geared just right with the manual to catch you off guard...It's kinda like an RSX-S...If they get you in their power band, you kinda have to work to catch up but eventually you should.
Top of third gear would eat the Eclipse for sure...
Anyway, go buy some headers and intake and be done with Eclipses for good (sans older turbos with mods of course)!

you have manual and know how to shift quickly, but with auto you dont need skills, thats why hard to get under 15sec.

Dude! What are you talking about? I am under 15 seconds!
And who has a manual?
Am I only one lost and do not know what he is talking about?

Hey Type S Lady did you get to see which Eclipse it was? The 03 Eclipse has the GT and and the new GTS model. The GT is about 200 hp while the GTS is about 215 with a faster and revised gearing, so Mitsubishi says personally I think there full of **** but I guess only Eclipse owners and Car Mags know that for sure.

But I guess if it was modded GTS I can see how its possibe you lost. Dont feel bad you'll get your revenge.

I own a 2001 GT and an '03 TL-S.

Off the line, the GT takes up to about 4000 RPM to build any real useable power. So you would definitely have the advantage.

Chances are, he probably figured you would try to pass him, put the engine in the high RPM range and kept it going. Once the power surge hits in, it's like a rush of immense torque, and it really gets the car going. That's most likely what happened, and he knows how to drive his car.

It was completely debadged so I don't know which one it was. He had an exhaust and it was slammed is all I could tell.

do you guys realize that you need at least 30whp at LEAST to "walk" someone on the highway that has started to accelerate FIRST??

I have no doubt that your "loss" wouldn't have been as tragic had that guy had an automatic.. b/c my buddy drives a 4-spd auto Dodge Stratus RT (same engine/tranny) .. and it's a doggy dog.

To actually be able to walk around someone at full throttle takes considerably more power than you all think... The TypeS has let me down several times against cars I thought I had a great chance at OUT OF THE HOLE.. let alone from a rolling start or on the highway...
