Beak In Period

Hi Guys,

I am new member and very soon an owner of '03 TL S. Could someone please tell me about the exact break-in period?
The car salesman said that there is no break in period since the engines are made so perfect and exact. I find that hard to believe.

Thanks guys ..

i am not an owner of a TL-S (mine is being shipped as we speak) but it is my understanding that with 600 miles without going over 4500 RPMs or other things that would decrease the performance of the tranny you should be fine. some members say 500, some memebers say 1000 miles. personally, i am going to go 1000 miles just to be sure.

this is just my two cents

try doing a search on this topic, it has been covered a million times

good luck

Good answer... pretty much hit it right on the head. The manual says 600 miles, but I too went 1000. Just take it easy, fluctuate the RPM (meaning no long trips at one speed) and you'll be fine. It's OK to go over 4800RPM once in a while, but don't make a habit of it. I think I did it 2 or 3 times in 1000 miles. After that I eased into it... didn't start revving high right away. Good luck!!

Well, I just bought my TL-S last Thursday (July 18), and was told 600 mile break in period by salesman, and juniorbean made a good point as well. Vary the speeds, don't redline, and ease into it. Well, last night I decided to let my girlfriend of 3 years drive my car for a bit. She drives an 2000 Integra and loves to speed.

This is probably the part where everyone lets me know how retarded I am for letting the following happen.

My car has 360 miles on it. We pull up to a light next to a young lady in an RL. As I am explaining to her for the second time about the high revs/break in period from the passenger seat, I get jerked back into my seat. To my horror, my wheels are squealing and in the next second or two the tach is pointing at 7500.

She then looks at me and says, "Oh, sorry hon. I wanted to beat that RL." Here's to hoping that was ok for the break in period.

Heh, chicks.
