homemade intake

I've seen someone here have a home made short ram intake. I'm considering doing that since i don' really want to spend over $100 on a metal pipe. I can just buy a $40 filter and install it to the rubber tube. Anyone know how i can go about doing this?

it might work...but your best bet if you don't want to spend the $$ is to take out your intake resonator and put a drop in K&N filter in....I did it and I love the way it sounds and performs

I did it. I used a 3 inch diameter cone K&N style filter. it was cheap from auto zone. I then went to Ace hardware and bought some 3 inch PVC pipe and a 90 degree pvc elbow. I bought a brass nipple for one of the hoses that connects to the intake and I also bought a rubber peice to connect the intake to the throttle body.

I make it look professional by using starter fluid on a paper towel and wiping all of the stupid schedule pipe info that is printed on the PVC. I then glued the peices together and painted that *****h black. It looks real good now and It only costed me $45.!!! It added more than a couple horsepower. I wish I had a picture of it. I will have to get my film developed and post the pics here.

I still wish I had bought a real intake though... like a CAI

Certain places will sell 180 degree and 90 degree 2.5inch - 3inch piping. I think Summitracing does as well. My friend made his own from the metal pipe, used headsheilf paint on it, and it looks pretty good.

You put the drop in filter in place of your stock filter.....the resonator is there just to quiet it down....which restricts hp.

A friend purchased a K&N from Napa auto parts. You can purchase it at any local auto shop like pep boys. As far as the comptech goes you can purchase it from one of the speed shops or you can get it from this site which i reccomend.

I got my K&N from pep boys for about 50 bucks.......I recommend the K&N over the comptech drop in.....it's a lot higher quality. The comptech drop in isn't even made by comptech. The comptech one might flow a little better because it's a foam element, but the K&N flows well and provides good filtration
