Bad tint job?

So I noticed on my friend's car with tint on his front windows that his tint goes all the way to the top. Mind doesn't, it stops short.

Also, my tint doesn't look perfect at the top of the back window. Not sure if this is a crappy job or just not possible to do.

And of course, now I know the shop is definitely too lazy since they couldn't tint the rear light and didn't ask me either.

Is it worth going back to them and complaining? Or is there anything i can do myself?

mine doesnt go up all the way either, but the dotmatrix and the 3rd brake light is bad. most will wetsand the matrix to flatten it, then tint over it...give it time to settle then complain

My windows is at pretty much the same level that yours is at. I would def complain about the brake light. It takes like 1 minute to take out; all it is is like 2 screws. If you just got it done then the dotmatrix will settle. I got mine redone last week and it finally settled and looks normal.

Mine are frameless and they go to your level. I would go back and have the rear window redone

every tint job i've seen has that 1/4in missing on the front windows.

the back will look like that because of the dots, only fix would have been to put a strip of solid vinyl before the tint job

cutting around rear break light is BS, they shouldve taken off that sub woffer cover (does it look like that around that plastic piece at the top of the window too?

it's on my rears that it's missing but i doubt it matters that it's rear instead of front. and what plastic piece at the top of the window? you can see the whole back window in the 3rd pic.

I always thought it was Illegal to tint over the break light unless you specifically ask.. Just like how in some places it's illegal to get under whatever percent tint (depending on region) but if you ask they'll still do it. Then again, that's here in Toronto though.

The back window is pretty bad though. Did they give you some sort of warranty?

i asked ahead of time to tint over my brake light since i have a spoiler... and my windows go up to the top just about there is a very small area untinted at the top... my dot matrix is similar but not as bad. go back and complain if you arent happy. dont settle for something that doesnt satisfy you. you are a paying customer after all.

so i have some sort of lifetime warranty agaisnt liek fading or cracking tint but idk if theres anything about crappy installation. woudd it look bad to just have a little piece cut and put over the brake light? is the dot matrix even fixable without doing the back window again?

It's a bitch to remove the tint from the back window because of the defroster. You should have gotten everything writing before the work was started. It's your word against his now.

good tint shops dont tint to the top of the window.. they know that if its too close to the edge.. that "eventually" it will start to fold back from rubbing the seals at the top of the door... so a little space is normal.. some space more or less..

and unless you take the 3rd brake light out, i dont think its a tint shops job to remove interior pieces unless you ask ahead of time.

the cut around mine and i cant blame them. but next time i go i will be sure to remove it so they can tint all the way down...

Ive NEVER had a professional tint job not go to the top of the window. Ive also never had it peel back. There is almost 9 years and 320+k on my tint and its still in great shape there. They can tint behind the brake light without removing it, cutting around it is a sign of being lazy. A good shop will take the time to do it right and not cut corners.

thats not true my tint place is excellent and they go to the top of the window i never ever had a problem with the tint folding back.

OP did you go to a joe blow tint shop. They give you a reciept with anything saying warrant yor anything.

My tint shop is lifetime warranty that wouldnt do a crappy job like that though. Even if i move out of the state any tint place that sells that tint will replace it for free. They maybe expensive but its hella worth it

Im too lazy to read all 2 pages but the top is because the shops tint doesnt cover the entire back window and/or due to the stock "tint" on the rear window they use more adhesive otherwise it would be see through. The adhesive darkens the tint.

every place is different i suppose... they leave an 1/8th of an inch on purpose the place i use.. its actually more time consuming because they freehand the cut instead of using thetop of the glass or the rubber seal at the top of the door. maybe yours hasnt peeled but i've seen tint jobs peel at the top b/c of this very thing. cars and windows are all different. but i love my shop and they do this purposely and i love their work

My tint goes all the way up to the top. I've never had a problem. Both of my sisters' cars, both of my dad's trucks, and several of my friends' cars have all gotten done at the same place. None of them have any complaints and they're all all the way to the top. The windows with the dot matrix pattern look good too.

To the OP: The shop you took your car to did a half ass job. I'd take it back and have them redo that back window. It looks awful.

yeah thats not a good tint job. i paid 320 for my tint job at Lorenzo Custom Window Tinting. They used Madico Char-cool tints and they did the best job I've ever seen. Super-Professional, all of the tints go up to the top of the window. They can do moleskine if you ask + pay. You can watch them do the whole thing also. The tint came with a lifetime warranty also against any scratches, peeling, or fading. you should ask the place to re-do yours.

sad to tell u bit i over paid . as good as the tint is, theirs nothing special about it that no other tint place can do. as long as they use good tint and a good job i would not pay more than $200.

I would say that it doesn't look too good for you...on multiple fronts.

Thanks for sharing tho- I want tint and it is helpful to know what to be prepared to address on the front end.

If the shop doesn't do anything for you, you can cut the tint just below the dot matrix area, and remove it, then put on black vinyl or paint, or just leave it untinted.

so finally got into the tint place today. guy says he warned me before he even did the job that the dotmatrix would occur. called silvering. apparently. and regarding the brake light, he says its "30 to 45 min of labor to take out the seats and the back deck". if i take i take it out myself then he woudl have tinted it. seems like he's just lazy
