So i posted this in the navi section and got no response so I'll try my luck here:
I just installed a double din HU to replace the Bose wanna be radio crap, I have an aftermarket sub and amp but kept the door speakers. The new HU came with all the bells and whistles, even a back up camera which I LOVE. But, now something really odd is happening. With headlights completely off if I use my blinker the lights in the gauge cluster, D5 light, lights in the buttons on BOTH nav screens BLINK, well dim is a more appropriate word. They dim exactly opposite of the turn signal blinking. If the headlights are turned on this doesn't happen. The ONLY wires i've touched besides the basic radio harness was a wire that comes from the reverse relay to tell the HU to swap to the backup camera mode and the + & - wires from the reverse lights to actually power the camera. I want to ask anyone out there that has installed a backup camera which wires you used for both a turn on signal and to power the camera itself. The green/black wire is what I tapped by the driver side fuse box for signal, and same wire at the reverse light bulb in the trunk for power. Can somone tell me a better place for this or what could cause this issue???
I don't have a back up camera but I would point out that Using the Main +/- from the Reverse light when the + from the Reverse light is also used to switch the HU to Reverse Mode isn't right. You should trip a relay to start the camera up using the + from the reverse lights but the main power coming from the battery.
That's what I was thinking too but MAN what a PITA to run wires all the way from battery to trunk... I have an aftermarket sub and amp back there but with no way to cut off the power to the camera I wasn't sure about doing that, or, does it only draw power when the signal wire for it tell the HU to turn it on?
I tried finding the white wire in the diagram coming from the transmission range switch but couldn't find it ANYWHERE where the service manual said it would be.
The reverse light wire is located in the passenger side fuse box. You will easily find a 2 pin brown harness with a GREEN/BLACK wire. You tap into that wire and connect it along to the reverse sensing wire off the deck harness. You then take the cameras video feed and connect that to the decks camera/video in. Then give the camera a +12v and take the - lead and just ground it. I ran my + to the front and tapped into the +12v off the deck. You can bring along your - as well n tap into the black wire frm harness. Or ground it in trunk somewhere. Now in your deck settings switch the camera polarity to "battery". The camera now comes on your deck whenever you put in "R" or since it has +12v now you can switch it on anytime now by pushing the camera button on dash. U can also install a switch at reverse sensing wire to flip on/off camera if you rather do that instead doing it off deck screen.
Are you sure? I read that somewhere else on here and I don't think that's the case for an 03' Type-S or at least I didn't see one ANYWHERE in the passenger side fusebox location. The diagram is different for an 03' from what the Acura Service Manual says... I found that wire on the DRIVER side, I have pictures but they're HUGE and idk how to resize them to put them on here, if I do they're so big you literally have to scroll around. Here's one for instance of the exact wire I tied onto on the driver side. The only thing I did wrong I think was using the same circuit, same wire just in the trunk to supply power as well as signal to the HU. I thought this was causing this wierd issue i'm having with my blinkers.... with my headlight switch OFF... If i turn on the blinker either side some of the lights on the gauge cluster and dash dim opposite of the blinker flashing. I thought this was because of me using that wire but now that i've unhooked both and it's still happening I know it's a bad ground or just an effect of the LED bulbs I have just put in to replace my blinkers front and back. Thinking load resistors will fix this... Anyway, I'll probably go with power from the 12+ wire going to the deck but, should I use the one that's constant 12v+ or switched with the ignition for power, you see IDK if the camera is only "ON" if the signal wire tells the deck to turn it on. Of course a switch would solve both these problems but would be redundant as my deck (DDIN Touchscreen from China, I know I know.... Usually crap but this one has actually done really well so far) has a "Camera" button that's available on the touchscreen that I can press anytime to view what's behind me, or with the signal wire tapped to the GRN/BLK wire as I shift into reverse. Although the service manual said I'd find this wire under the dash near the reverse relay, NO luck there either. I finally found a GRN/BLK wire coming out of a green plug to the left of the fuses on the driver side fuse box. That's what I used. Here's the GIGANTIC photo I was talking about:
The place where the little blue wire is sticking out is where I had the "signal wire" soldered to the GRN/BLK wire.... Cut it off to see if it was why my dash lights are doing the weird blinking stuff.... I've checked all grounds as well and found NOTHING. Guess it's either the LED blinkers that i DO NOT have a load resistor on yet or something i havent thought of yet idk bout to give up on that part... Any electronics guys out there know if I hook the camera's POWER straight to battery ( w/ fuse) and the signal wire to the deck or HU if that will kill my battery? Should I be finding a power source that's only on with the ignition???? Sorry for the multiple issues here but i've tried putting them seperately and no luck. Thought this was all related to begin with as they started happening at roughly the same time.
