AV6 swap - problem with SS mode shifting automatically
AV6 swap - problem with SS mode shifting automatically
6 months ago I swapped a used AV6 transmission (60k miles) into my TL-S. The swap was done by a shop in Sacramento and even though I told the guy in charge what TL parts to swap over, the actual mechanic working on my car didn't get that info. So by looking - I still have the original Accord: warmer and external filter. I'm not sure if the 3rd/4th pressure switches, range switch and temp sensor were transferred over but everything is wired up. I assume they are since these Accord parts won't connect to the TL's harness.
The car ran fine for the 6 months after the AV6 swap. But just the other day the transmission started acting up. At a stop light in SS mode the "D5" and "1" light would blink and go out for a second or 2 and then come back on. While driving on the freeway, sometimes the D5 would turn off for a couple of seconds or the gear number next to it would turn off and then come back on. Each time a light would turn off, the car felt like it was shifting. I disconnected the battery to reset everything. Today while driving to work, the D5 (in auto mode) would turn off and only by going into SS mode would the light turn back on. I also noticed my SS is no longer working. If I shift to third gear "3" and accelerate keeping the rpms up, the car will automatically shift to "5".
Searched the forums but couldn't find anyone with the same problem. Flashing D5 with CEL usually means the tranny is about to be toast.
Here's what I checked:
-no codes were read when scanned
-the transmission fluid was changed 3x3 (with OEM ATF) four months ago and is still clear pinkish/red. No burnt smell.
-fluid level is topped off
-all the wire harnesses are connected
I read it's suggested to change the 3rd & 4th clutch pressure switch during the AV6 swap which i haven't done yet. But before spending $100+ dollars on the switches - can they cause the "ghost shifting" and on/off D5 and gear light?
Any ideas what else could be causing this?

the 3 micro-switches under shifter plate for the SS mode, those can get liquid on them from soda knocked over in cup holder or similar incident?
Solution is to spray liberally in shifter/below shifter with CRC
Or maybe its just loose!
cant help beyond that, ck with some of the trans gurus
atf level is correct?
Gurus!! Does the AV6 still read as `between the 2 dots` on atf stick?

Nah, none of the above!
Bet you my next coffee its the trans range sensor, it either needs adjustment or its on the way out!
And as far as fluid level, when I fill it cold, i keep it a tiny bit below the bottom dot, DW-1 seems to expand like a mo-fo when hot

It can actually be a combination both, The range sensor never sees position 1, thats done by a switch in the gear selector. Sugary liquids make the switch get stuck temporarily.
Range sensor bolts were probably not torqued down properly or its just going bad.
Check adjustment first before buying one.

Thanks all!
Will check the bolts on the range sensor and clean under the shifter. The shifter has definitely seen it's share of soda, melted frozen yogurt and starbucks. "CRC dry electronic cleaner" right?
Read on other postings that the pressure switches can go bad w/o giving a code. Also replacing them fixed a problem for someone that had a blinking D5 light in their Odyssey. Found them cheap (1/2 the dealer price) on amazon so ordered them and will install when they show up next week.
