Auto Tranny converted to Manual... Possible?

Sorry if this sounds lame, but is it possible to change a automatic transmission into a manual transmission. Would be too expensive? Are there manuals that can fit into a TLS? How about the Accords?

Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks

yes it would fit, you would have to pretty much get all the components from the CL-S 6. So to answer you question, it is possible...BUT, it would be expremely expensive, to the point it wouldn't even be worth it. You'll not only have to change the transmission but also the interior to fit the manual. Defintiely NOT worth it.

i looked into it after my 3rd tranny failed. i found all the parts for about 5k. (i was able to find the front clip of a cls in a salvage yard, that i could have gotten all the parts) the big thing is labor. the more you can do your self the cheaper it is goign to be. the other big problem like nsxnext said was electrical. from every thing i found that was gong to be the biggest hurdle. if you are going to pay someone to do this all you are looking at serious $$

are these trannies less susceptible to failing like the ones from acura do???

I wonder if they use an OEM tranny and simply modify it, or do they reconstruct the entire tranny from scratch?? Hopefully if they do use an OEM tranny, the first thing they do is install the oil jet kit, and somehow lubricate the "3rd gear clutch pack" a lot better, so it eliminates the possibility of failing on you.

I would only invest money into a solution that actually works. No point in upgrading your tranny if it's simply gonna fail on you after less than 50k miles.

ya I figured that. There's no way our stock trannies can be considered "performance enhanced" cause they downright suck. I'm at 46k km on mine (30k miles) and it's starting to feel "not like it used to". I'm expecting my tranny to crap out sometime this winter...damn acura's.

ya I hope not either, but it looks like it's inevitable with these late model 2nd Gen TL's...I know another guy here in Toronto on his second tranny, but this was back in the summer, and he puts a lot of mileage on his car, so he could potentially be on tranny #3 by now (TLS_Rulz)

Anyways, it's something I have to live with driving a TL. I just made sure that I'm ready for when it happens, by having acura roadside assistance saved in my cell phone (which is always on me). This way if the tranny does crap out, I simply call the roadside assistance and get a flatbed to tow me.

Switching from an automatic to manual is NOT cheap. I've looked into it myself.
