Audio / Visual System Finally Completed
After almost six months of planning (and saving) and 1 week of labor my audio / visual system is finally installed. The head unit of choice for my 2002 TL-S was the Kenwood DNX-7100. The 6.95 touch screen monitor is nothing short of incredible. It took about a day to figure everything out - now its second nature. The project was started by removing the seats and counsil so the JL pro series wires could be run down the center of the vehicles interior. The door panels were removed and the factory speakers were replaced with Kenwood Excelon units. The doors were also dyno matted. The rear shelf was taken apart and the Bose sub was removed. The shelf was modified so a 8' Kicker square sub could be installed. The rear shelf was dyno matted and reinstalled. In the trunk the springs had to be bent slightly and wood blocks installed to clear the giant magnet of the new sub. The wood blocks were covering in trunk material to give a very untouched factory look (truck operation was not sacrificed). A 1200w Kenwood amp was installed in the trunk along with some mirrored plexiglass for a stylish touch.
The head unit was installed into a custom dash kit. The DNX-7100 was installed with a few upgrades. The unit comes with am/fm, cd, dvd and Garmin navigation and I added Ipod, Sirius and Bluetooth. This unit does it all and operation is a breeze. The navigation is simple and quick to use as is the bluetooth. The sound quality is AWESOME. People assume that I have a trunk full of speakers when they hear it and are shocked when I show them that I lost ZERO trunk space. Im sure that there are much louder and complex systems out there - but this was built with a purpose. I wanted BIG sound, modern amenities and all my trunk space - I suceeded. Special thanks to Dave Lewis and Dane of Lewis Electronics in Shaker Heights, Oh for their incredible workmanship.

The system has incredible midrange from the door speakers and plenty of bass from the rear sub. The sound is clean and undistorted no matter how loud you play it. I did not want a system that has so much bass that the car shakes and the music is not pure. The best way to desribe the sound is - home stereo. You can adjust the sound to your liking with the EQ if you really want to but I have not found the need to.

What your problem is?
Did you have any issue on the DNX-7100 install? I am looking to get this headunit. Also, if you don't mind me asking, how much was everything? PM me if you'd like.. thanks.

I will post some pictures of the trunk once it stops raining. There is really nothing to see - it looks totally stock with a amp. You cannot tell we bent the springs and mounted a larger speaker unless you stick your head in the trunk and look up. The system really came out slick. The biggest problem was finding an install kit. My installer used a single din with a storage pocket then modified it. Im extremly picky when it comes to my car and it surpassed my expectations. If you heard this system you would not believe a 8' Kicker and 4 door speakers could sound like that.
My cost on everything was under a $1000. That is because Lewis Electronics sort of sponsored me. I refer tons of work to them from our dealership - so this was the payback. The regular price for a job like this would be in the $3500 range when you figure in the amout of labor and the quality of the componants.
The biggest problem they had was fitting everything in behind the unit. I added bluetooth, Ipod and Sirius. Im not sure the backup camera would of fit. The plan for next year is to run ouitputs into the trunk so I can plug in a monitor and watch movies when I tailgate or go to car shows. I want something I can take in and out.

How do you like the DNX-7100? ive been looking for a couple weeks for a screen and that was the first one i liked. Then my friend found me an alpine screen that looked appealing as well. Let me know if you have any advice or recommendations on some screens? theyd be very much appreciated

Nothing short of incredible, Crystal clear movies and easy to navigate. The Garmin navigation that comes built in is super simple, fast, current and accurate. There is not another system I would recommend.
