ATF Temp Sensor :(
Hey guys,
i wrote about my problems and solved a few things, but it seems the previous owner was doing starsky and hutch episodes with this car because I honestly cant believe why so many parts broke down in 4 months that i had this car.
I took the car to dealer and they diagnosed it. I had a happy smile on my face since i am convered and was sure it was my tranny gone bad. I waited for them to tell me "ok Sir its come back in bla bla bla and your car will be ready, when they came to me with this line. " Your ATF sensor is broke
" .So They make me pay 115 for diagnostics, and shoved their fist up my ass
.
on top of that, they told me that my front right shock is leaking (which may explain the freaking stupid bouncing evertime i hit a small tiny pothole) . so ya I get 2 bad news AND a bill
I argued with them and told them that everyone on this forum with a 99-03 TL Has a problem with their tranny, and im pretty sure thats alot of ppl. they said they cant do anything because Honda wont let them.
I asked them "what if i change the stupid sensor and my light still flashes?" they said that Then i can ask the manager for my money back (115 dollars) but i would still have changed the
part when i didnt need to which would cost me 120 + 250 labour (120 + 65 at a realistic mechanic)
Im hoping to get an advice soon from someone because i have to do it today or else im pretty sure my money is gone.
Im gonna go buy the part. if you guys suggest otherwise i can return it.
also about the shock..is there anything i can do to fix it temporarly ?
Thanks

Shocks leak when they die to let you know they need to be replaced.
That horrible pounding is hurting the whole car
Decent replacements are not that expensive
As for the trans (I have not read any of your other post)
Acura can only replace it, IF it has failed! Some people want one just because it might fail.
If they diagnosed a different problem- then you need to get that fixed.
Normally- if they do the repair- you do not pay full ,or any seperate for the diagnosis, its part of the labor total in the computer.
If what they diagnose was not the prob- they are now responsible for that and it snowballs
What made you certain it was the trans failure
Has a private mechanic looked this car over for you
Were there codes found during dealer diagnosis?
Another member thought their trans went out and it was actualy a front brake caliper problem- go figure

register your car at www.acura.com owner link by VIN number
its got the warranty history and more about your car- it knows if
you are really covered on the 109/7 trans warranty
You said all 99-03 have prob- the extended warranty only covers a few early 03s
although some ~not covered~members here have been able to get help with theirs if it failed
What does carfax- even the free report say about this car?

sorry i didnt mention i have a 03 TL (and the part where i said 2nd gen cars have flaws was just something i said to try to get them to do the tranny for me lol )
well im in Canada, so i might have to use the .ca website
as for the problem they want me to pay over 120 + 240 Cnd bucks which in no way im doing. i can get the job done for about 120 + 65.
They got the Code from the computer . it pointed out to my tranny sensor (dct po710)
Some of the services the Dealer had done on my car include Engine Cooling System service, Transmission service, and 14 other normal looking services.
on carfax it says there are 17 claims or w/e its called
is that bad?

Ok You have a couple of issues
The Canada cars have different warranty- not the 109/7 usa
register on the canada acura site
I am guessing 3 hours labor is what they want? And you got a guy to do it for 65?
Carfax often shows oil change at dealer as a report and every year it gets inspected for registration of many dumb things.
How many miles/kms are we talking here
Telling the dealer you want a free trans because you want one does not go over well and MAY be reflected in your estimate price!

seriously im fed up, I say up the dealer's ass.
First thing is first. Let me tell u my car's specs:
-143K (km) = 89k Miles
-Had apparently been serviced for Transmission (not sure if it means replaced)
-Had a bunch of oil changes on the report the dealer printed out for me
-Most likely all the parts in my car are stock (bad news for me) but i had already changed Lower ball joints, Rotors, and HID lights
So now on to the story . I went and changed the sensor for 65 Dollars CND insted of the dealer's BS 250 dollars labour charge (it took my mechanic about an hour to take the old sensor out, put the new one in, and add like 3 liters of ATF), and if i still see D5 flashing in the next 100 Km im simply gonna ask for my diagnostic's money back (i cant give the sensor back cuz its in my car now) and im sure they will give me the money back if they dont a scene in their dealership
and yes bro, ur right cuz most of the 17 claims are oil changes , tire changes, maintenance and servers, etc. i have here a paper listing 16 of the 17..i just gotta figure out where and what the 17th is..i hope its not a "crashed into a wall while doing a 360 flip in the air".
If for some reason the D5 doesnt come flashing on me anytime soon, then i really dont know what to do because i do feel harsh downshifting, once i pressed the gas and the car kept rolling as if it was on N .. so ya this doesnt sound like a properly working Tranny. and I dont use the sport shifting (even though im dying to use it) becuase a friend of mine with an audi used it to the point where he really messed up his tranny.

Use the SS all you want- if you have a bad 3rd gear clutch pack you do- its that simple
Whether you tell the computer yopu want to shift or it tells itself- doesnt matter
Further driving will tell, and because you documented your concern at the dealer- it will be easier for you if the trans really does fail
Perhaps the trans fluid was low?? Causing some shift probs?
Should not lose fluid for any reason
