apexi ws2 droning is killing me

hey guys, so i put a catback apexi ws2 in my 03tls and i cant stand the droning. Its only up to about 3500 rpm but as ownsers of this car know, that is where it lives when your cruising on the highway going 80. i have put a second resonator in. it made a slight difference. I am goign to look into sound deadening my trunk and possibly my floors (not just for the exhaust but hopefully it helps) and then i dont really know what else to do. does anyone have any advice? i looked into silencers but from what i see there is only one made for the n series and nothing for the ws. any advice would be apprecaited.

really? a few of my friends have it too but no one said anything about it. although i think one did say it was a little loud for him too. at any rate, i hope you find a solution to the droning. i can't stand a really loud exhaust either.

Thats why I personally couldn't do the exhaust if it was just going to annoy me. Worst comes to worst you can sell it and get something different.

they arent that loud at all, turn up your radio!! or just trade it for a comptech axleback or something, you already added another resonator and it is still too loud? I would just put the oem back on, cuz the comptechs will be too loud for you aswell

I'm assuming you did this for sound purposes only since exhaust offers little, or no performance gain. Adding the resonator/sound deadning to the trunk (weight) is also going to hurt the performance.

I would just put the stock exahust back on if I were you and delete the mid muffler for a slight increase in sound.

from what ive herd so far from people on this site is that the best exhaust mod is removing the mid muffler and adding in a magnaflow resonator..gives you the g35 sound

Take out the resonator you added and have a larger one put in. Dont waste your time on sound deadening, it wont help

so which is better? stock system with no mid-muffler or stock system and magnaflow resonator replacing the mid-muffler?

You can always check Magnaflow's website to find a dealer near you, then have them order &/or install the parts for you...

I've had the WS2 for about a year and a half. I hated it since I picked it up from the installer. Not only does it drone like mad, the exhaust note fades out as revs pass 4.5k.

So... you get an exhaust that's utterly loud while you're cruising at 2k... and when you decide to whomp on the gas the exhaust goes quiet. idiot of an exhaust i say.

On the bright side... after a few months (maybe up to 6...) ... either my hearing's been permanently damaged... or the exhaust has finally broken itself in and the droning has become a bit more manageable. On cold starts it's still quite loud though... which gets a bit better after things start to warm up.

On the 'fun' (sarcasm) / driver-training note... you can use the exhaust to do some pedal work training... learn throttle control to minimize the droning......

Best of luck mate.

That's 1 reason why I never changed my exhaust. I personally love the sound of my stock exhaust...Good luck on finding an alternative

Wow. Interesting. I have had my Apexi WS2's for a little over three years now, and I love it just as much as day one. I hate loud exhaust, and I really don't think this is loud. It definitely is louder than stock, but that is kind of the point right??? At one point I thought my exhaust had gotten louder and the I realized it was a blown gasket in the Y-pipe. As you see in my sig I also have headers and it still doesn't strike me as loud. The exhaust note at one time did start to fade a tiny bit as you get in the higher RPM's but headers helped that. Here is a clip of my car with just exhaust that someone from here posted on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOwC9eRU8QE

I love my Ws2's

Sure its loud on the inside but I love the noise. It's not too loud. I turn my music halfway on the stock radio and I hear no exhaust.

I love the sound when im outside the car, the only thing I cant stand is the droning on the highway and inside roads when I am cruising but i have learned ways around it..Ive decided to keep it, sound deaden as I intend to get a sub and just deal with it. Does anyone else who has this exhaust have any pictures? id love to see how it looks on anybody elses car. The thing I loved abou the tls is that its silent but fast, the exhaust kind of takes away from that but you can deff feel a power difference.

You actually shouldn't feel any power difference with the exhaust on. Any catback system will add no more than 0-5hp and in some cases you may even lose some low end torque. Exhaust on our cars is purely for the sound.

And this is the TL with (basically) straight pipes (i made inserts to go in the comptech mufflers to make them pretty close to straight thru)

know what blows me away kris, the fact that you've basically done more mods than any member and no one would even know from the stock body and 4 inch wheel gap or maybe it is lowered, i cant tell. but that's a damn sleeper right there

That was all before i lowered it and did the 6 speed swap. Still looks the same other than rims and a lowering job

I got my magnaflow resonator from Performance Peddler for $50.

I first went with the no resonator and mid muffler. It sounded just like a G35 but a lil louder. The bad thing about it is that it had a lot more droning and only had the nice sound from 2.3K to 3K rpm. After that it was almost silent.

With the magnaflow, it's has a lower more throaty sound, which I like.

The link on the side sometimes don't work. And they consider the resonator a muffler, so you won't get any search results.

Just type in 10415 in the search. To get it for $50, type in peddler as a discount code.
