Apexi VAFC2 install with Frog Harness... yayyyy

OK guys just a whole ordeal but it turns out we are stupid lol we thought the airbag controller was the ecu ... didnt realize the ecu is behind the center console.

Anyways my idea was to put the vafc2 in the sunglass holder and be sneaky sneaky ... so we did this at the time thinking the airbag controller was the ecu so we though we had justttttttttttttttt enough length.

Open the controller up and the plugs are wrong. So I call Pascal at Frog, not realizing our error, and he said it might be the car itself as he hasnt sold many 02/03 type s harnesses.

Anyways we call Pascal again and talk things out and realize our error.
So now we are in a bind. There is about a two foot gap in between the frog harness and the vafc wiring. So what to doooo ........

well we extended the wires on the vafc itself by two feet and used butt harnesses and crimped them shut.

Everything worked great and install went clean.

So heres how we ran the wires ...

We put the VAFC2 in the sunglass holder drilled a one inch by 1 1/2 inch rectangle on top of the sunglass holder. Fed the wire through (with all the butt harnesses) down through the a pillar. Once we got out of the A-pillar we ran the wire underneath the weather stripping in the area where the door closes. After that we ran it through the fuse panel to underneath the glove box (I found a little latch sort of thing under there so i hung the wires there) And then we pulled the carpet up a bit, installed the harness, put the carpet back down and viola we are done The only thing that doesnt fit is the fuse panel because it goes into where the weatherstripping is and the wires from the vafc make it bulge a little. So we need to dremel the fuse panel a little bit to make it fit properly.

Other then that everything is perfect !!! We were able to keep the VAFC in place by using 1" wide velcro on the back of the VAFC2 So the long waited for pics

Sneaky Sneaky

2 days cause we thought the airbag console was the ecu at first lolo .. we arent use to it being behind the center consol

it woulda taken 30 minutes if we didnt have to make that extension. total time with extension (excluding our 2 day little wait we had to do would have been about one hour total

i will not let you touch my car since you said
1: you can't tell the difference between the ecu and air bag module
2: you have to trim the fuse cover
3: you drill a 1 inch hole on the sunglass holder

i had mine vafc in the sunglass holder since early 2002

1: i bought some 6 foot multiconductor wires, looks like telephone wires but there is 15 wires inside
2 : i drill a small hole about the 5/8"
3: ran the vafc wire thru the sunglass holder and solder the vafc connector near the factory map lights connector so i can disconnect it just like factory
4: solder the extension wires that i bought and run it thru the a pillar. i feed it thru the corner of the dashboard so i don't have to trim the fuse cover.
and hook it up to the ecu with supplied hardware.

just so you know we had to drill a one inch hole in the sunglass holster because we had 12 butt connectores that had to go through it, originally we had it about the same size, but there was no way the 12 connectors would have gone through

that is why run the wires first before you crimp the butt connector

lol rev-01 ... it made the install about 5 million times easier to be able to do the butt connectors inside on a table then have to play around with them while in the car
