I run my yakima Rack on the TL quite a bit. Works well except the bike are up high. Dont have it on right now, but the next time I do, I will shoot pix. Also great for skis and other stuff.

I'm actually thinking about getting a car like this
http://www.carsbydealers.net/search....7&dealer_id=70

and putting a bicycle rack on the back. Then I can go biking, then return home all sweaty and such, enjoying the T-tops.

I'm going to see if this car is a 5-speed. If it is, I just might adopt it!!!

Whattayathink?

I use the yakima racks (and fairing)to carry my surfboards. Looks good and works great. I sweat and get the seats wet with salt water all the time and they dont show a bit of wear.

I use a bones trunk mounted system on my gen 1... I have it set up so that the contact points are on the rear glass and the rear plate...

sorry i do not, but i don't think the arms are long enough to be able to do that with a gen 2...i mean it will fit, but the pads will make contact with the paint...go to a bike shop and have them put the rack on your car to see how you can set it up...if they really want the sale, they'll show you...

IMHO, roof rack does not look too good on any car.

One advice...

Drive safely when you got stuff on top of your roof. There was one time I raced an A4 with two bikes on their roof rack. Dayum the bikes were swaying like hell and it looked like they were about to pry the roof apart from the car! No more racing for you!

I think they look twice as good as those useless mods people put on their cars. IMHO.

Now why would anyone want a hunking piece of metal rack on their TL. I won't treat my baby that way...That's as bad as a civic with 3 exausts The only car that should have bike racks is Jeeps or SUV. That's my opinion.

Its not a hunking piece of metal and your TL isnt a Rolls Royce. It's a $27,000, 4 door car. Relax, some people are into sports that require racks.

I shopped long and hard before getting my Yakima racks. They are for those of us who are sporty and physically active, and need to use our cars for what they are made for (and then some...), in addition to showing them off . The Yakima's look sweet with the fairing on, and are really useful. I dont have an SUV or Pickup truck in addition to my current cars, so I have even carried shipping tubes, christmas trees, lumber, and a variety or sports gear on top. I just dont leave it on unless I am expecting to use it.

personally, i dont' like havign the roof rack on when i don't need it...sometimes they make a car look better and more rugged...but not on my TL unless it has a bike stuck to it...

I gotta say, my lowered TL looks pretty cool with full on sports gear on the Yakima Rack. I kinda like that definition of a sport sedan

I wanted a bike rack but didn't want to put it on the roof and didn't want it touching the back/trunk. The solution I came up with involved getting a hitch from Uhaul for $90 including installation. The hitch is small and not even noticeable because it is back underneath the bumber. Then I ordered a BVG Evolution 1 1/4 bike rack from www.sportsrack.com for around $200. This rack is a little more expensive than others but it keeps my two mountain bikes incredibly secure. I looked at other racks by Yakima and Thule and almost laughed at the mechanism they use to strap the bikes down. Hitch rack systems are probably easier to install than either roof or trunk mounted bike racks. Just stick the rack in the hitch and tighten the pin (but not too much).

I like the way the car looks loaded down with sports equipment also, especially when I have 4 surfboards.
