Exclamation Anyone knows what's wrong??

Well while driving to mcdonalds, i stopped in the middle of the road to let oncoming traffic drive by on my left. So i was about to turn, I hear a loud crank noise and then my car stops in the middle of the road. Now i just can't drive or reverse. When I put the car in park, it makes a loud rattling noise. Also, when i put the car in park, the car just rolls back(that's just cuz i was going up a hill). So everything is fine, its just that i can't drive or reverse. Anyone know what's wrong???

Sounds like trans went if you cnat go forward or backwards. Also check the axles that they are still in place.

dont be so quick there phee- occassionaly its NOT the trans.

What is the year and miles on the car?
Has anyone thrashed on it like drag racing or burnout or corners?
Anything feel like clutch slipping lately?

Have you registered to see if covered on trans extended warranty?

complete axle assemblies-all new at napa- are under 100, last I heard was 75, but that was last year

Control arm bushings in the front seem to be this months favorite failure- gen3 guys are having the wheel fall off when it breaks, thats steering linkage.

Jack it up and have a look for anything with a clean end- like broken metal bar

If it's making a bunch of racket when idling in park it has to be in the transmission. The fact that it goes forward but not reverse is heavily indicative of the transmission (though there's a small chance it could be a few other things).

All in all, with the whole situation you described, I'm about 98% sure it's the transmission.

It sounds like you are not really into working on the car, have it towed to a transmission shop for inspection. Call some places and ask how many Acura Tiptronic units they have done in THAT shop, and how many come back because not working right the first time.

You can talk with your Acura dealer if ever went there for stuff- even though way past the mileage cutoff of 109, they may price match a local shop at 2500$ and give you a better trans than rebuilding yours. See the SERVICE MANAGER only
Full dealer price is 4 gs and most rebuilder shops 2500-2800

that happened to my 91 legend, and it was the axle. but i dont remember if it made noise while in park. it doesnt sound like the typical tranny symptoms everyone on this forum had.

i was just wondering if it was to be the tranny then wouldn't the engine light pop up or something cuz mine didn't? When the incident happened, i heard somewhat of a *snap* i think it was. I'm not too sure because i had the music up.

pray for axle/CV failure
trans failures do many different things- some make no lights at all- others go into 2nd on the freeway or into limp mode and wont go over 2500 rpm

was it making any "clicking" noises while turning before this happened? if so then you probably had an axle let loose.

Same exact thing that happened. I stopped and then i stepped on the gas and then it just snapped. I just started to roll backwards even when it's in drive.
