Try calling your auto insurer. If anyone would know about theft it would be them. TimC

Just remember that NOTHING is fool-proof! Wouldn't doubt that it works but there are always ways to disable units such as this.

Question

What about that wonderful chip we have in the key... supposedly the car won't start without the right key... or is it just a fake?

From the interview with the car thief:

Q: What about engine immobilizers, "Smart Keys" or factory systems?
A: Easy man... just a couple of jumper wires, and I'm around them and gone with the car.

LOL.

The Acura Immobilizer system is a little bit better than the simple starter circuit bypass found on other manufactureres. It actually interfaces with the car's computer module to deactivate the fuel delivery system entirely.

Unfortunately, I have heard from my mechanic friend that it is still easy enough to trick the sensing circuitry into thinking the properly encoded key is inserted. I don't want to divulge the exact process.

This has me concerned enough that I might get an autolock for my own TL.

They can always cut your parking brakes and tow your car away!
All you need is a "Bat Shield" (device on Batmans car)!!!

Waste of time and money. Get a battery backup alarm and if someone cuts the alarm the battery backup sounds for an hour with no way to stop it except find it under the hood and use a special key to turn it off.

Backup Sirens last longer than an hour. Most of them last for DAYS! The backup out of my old car went off for 2.5 days. In a garbage can in my garage of course. (I lost the key)

I agree with Nate. My brother has an Integra (Prelude before that) and his cars are always getting broken into.

His Prelude's backup alarm went off one night. He got the key and went out and turned it off. Sure enough, someone had cut his alarm. Saved his stuff.

He had only owned his Integra a couple days before someone broke in and took his stereo. He had an appointment to have a backup alarm installed (not soon enough).

Nothing is full proof, but they are trying to sell you something so they are going to make it sound like your present security system is inadequate.

I think the TL security is very good, I mean it does cut off the fuel to the car. I haven't had break ins and hope that I never will.

If crooks know how well a security system is, will they even try to steal your car?

Actually, I think the best security can't be found in the United states...it's a system that automatically electrically charges everything in the car...the poential thief tries touching anything(steering wheel, console, doors) and he gets a joltage of voltage( always wanted to say that) The doors lock and it automatically calls the police.. I just hope it doesn't accidentally activate when the owner gets in the car...
Let's not forget about the anti-carjacking device in Africa that with the push of a button, a shot of fire comes out from under the car by the door and roasts the the jacker, the device also promises that your car's finish won't be touched..

Stock TL alarm keeps someone from driving your car away. But I can break your windshield, climb in, take all your stuff, slash your seats, and climb back out without setting it off.

With my alarm, you get closer than a foot and it beeps, if you don't move, it goes off.

i just let my AKITA sit next to the car at nite, she'll tear at any intruders and then lick them to death, YEH YEH .
I liek the idea of the voltage, but just think about your self if uu forget the key on one of your drucnk nights, u'll fry your self. But the power locks would be quit cool, although i knew a guy whos freidns clk430 had thaT and still had his car stole. Problem was, that in a drucken stuper, they problaly lef tteh doors unlocked and the thief rumabed thru the wifes bag, and took of fwith the car by use of the 2nd key. SO lesson to be learned, never leave keys in the car, with th edoors unlocked ,unless you want your car jacked
