I would mount it on the side of the console facing up. In the pic= in between the shifter and teh driver side seat heater switch , to the left, and underneath the wood. You can still see it at night. I do not know how well you want to see it or not.
OR you could tuck all the wires in and mount it in the center of the speedo pod on the plastic trim facing you.

You can mount it any where you want. I dont have a pic of it but someone once mounted it in the blank spot where the flog light switch would go if you had foglights. I never cared for the ones that mounted the V1 display on the steering column

I don't have pics, but I've done this. I hardwired it to the rear view mirror dimmer (12v). Hopefully memory serves me right,

Whenever your ACC line get triggered (You turn the car to accessory or turn it one) the x50 turns right on.

I'll try to get pictures, but my install was a little sloppy (My hand slipped and I ended up slicing 3 wires for the rear view dimmer).

Let us know how it went, and POST PICTURES to help the people who are gonna do this in the future...

Sorry, I missed the part about using the existing led/mute button assembly. I used the kit that Escort offers which doesn't use it.

Here is the thread I followed (Found it on my computer at home!)
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134158

The install took me less than 10 minutes, and that's coming from the most electrically challenged person on this board!
