I'm having a problem getting over the fact that to shift from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th etc., I have to push the stick up instead of down. And of course going from 5th to 4th, 4th to 3rd etc. is equally problematic as I have to pull the stick down.

Yes, I'm fully aware that it's crazy, since it would seem sensibly that during the upshift you should push up, and the downshift pull down, but dammit if it doesn't cause me grief every time, and a major learning curve is in order.

I blame it on years of first-person shooters using an inverted mouse, and flight sims.

Anyway, anyone else suffer from my obviously PC-related illness?

I had a hard time adjusting just because of driving a stick-shift, and going from 1st to 2nd, you're pulling the knob towards your body. But I've gotten over that knee-jerk reaction.

 

only problem i have had with that type of up/down shifting is from driving a manual car... when i go from 1st to 2nd or 3rd to 4th, i downshift into it... but on the SS, i have to upshift

I never had a problem, and i acutally like it that way... the 3 series is reversed, upshift is down and downshift is up... that always messed with my head....

 

Well, that explains it then. I'm German!

Seriously, I'm coming from a manual tranny too, and that's bothersome for me too, but more for the fact that I have no clutch control. I miss my clutch...except in traffic

i always wanted a stick... my next car is going to be a 540 sport, but i still havent decided on 6 speed or auto... a clutch can suck sometimes, and the auto in the 540 sport does an afual damn good job

 

i'm also thinking going to manual on my next ride...most likely in the BMW maket...hehe..
