Any Tranny Problems on 2002 TL-S

I have been reading all the tranny problems on TL-S. I am looking to purchase a new 2002 TL-S and was wondering if the tranny problems have finally been ironed out on these cars. Has anyone had a problem on a 2002 so far? I love the car, but just hesitant to purchase with this issue out there. Should this be a concern for me, or should i just go for it and not worry so much.

Well, technically the "S" I bought in April is a 2002 model. I have not had any problems myself but have heard of some that have. As far as I know, Acura has not made any changes since they put the car on the market in March, 2001.

As far as should you concern yourself: The car has a 4 year 50,000 mile warranty. If it breaks, Acura will fix it.

Oh yeah, I have almost 10K miles on the car.

Transmission Problems

It's true that Acura will replace a defective transmission if it fails during warranty period, however , realize this if they replace your transmission they do so with a rebuilt tranny, that is if they can get one. I waited 6 weeks for a replacement transmission, and after 3 missed delivery dates\I asked the dealership to buy my car back. It seems there is real backlog on transmission replacements. Acura Canada could not tell me when they were going to get a tranny.

The rumor is that Acura had lots of problems with 1999 TL's (Not TL-S). After that year, Acura went to 5 speed Auto and most of the problems were resolved when they went to 5 speed auto.,

Maybe not. I noticed that some TL-S were having problems with their tranny too. I hope mine last.

I have a 99 and my transmission was really bad. I took it to Park ave acura and they flushed it a couple of times. After that, it was better but now, it is going back to its old self again.

Its so embarrasing when my friends and family are in my $30k car and the transmission jerks, clicks, clacks and booms.

Not an 02 TLS, but close. Almost 3700 miles, and no transmission problems what so ever. Seems like the dreaded tranny problems are hit and miss. I'm hoping to side with the "miss" crowd!

Maybe only transmission in a Type S is a problem because supposedly they had to change it, make it stronger of course because the engine is stronger. Be safe, go and buy Lexus. Just kidding.

I have a 2002 TL with about 8000 miles on it and the tranny is still great. There is someone on this site that has a problem @ 8000 miles. Check out the search area of this board.
