Question Any suggestions on adding a spoiler?

I just bought a used 2002 TL-P with Nav. Nice car but the Naples Gold I have is very similar to my former 1994 tan Accord. I've been thinking of adding a spoiler to change the look.

I've been looking at the web for after market spoilers, some come painted, some don't. Some are made of resin, others of fiberglass.

Any recommedations for me?

Stock OEM or WW flush spoiler. The rest are overly expensive (mugen, Inspired).

Stock OEM (~$600) or aftermarket factory styles (~$250)

Flush mount WW (~$200) (No LED Tho)

I'd stick to the factory one... not too bad. But yeah, get the knock off one... dont go to the dealer.

Yeah I'll also throw in a ptich for Spoilerdepot.com. Paid $200 shipped, and the paint job was flawless. I cant see any reason to go with the facotry one for $600+. The only difference is the factory one has "acura" stamped underneath it (like anyone is going to see that anyway!) and the OEM is rotomolded plastic, while the aftermarket is fiberglass. the aftermarket weighs under 3 lbs. Regardless of which one you get, Acura does sell stronger support springs you can change over to if you still want your trunk to pop open. Otherwise, the spoiler will keep the lid from flying open. Frankly, i prefer the trunk to not fly open when i pop the trunk, so i didnt bother to change out my springs.
Note that changing the spings can be dangerous if you are not careful.

I think it's good deal since he's going to paint it with PPG (noway to check it though), and give you 3 year warranty.

As long as you return it with spoiler on, I think there's no problem. If you want to take it out, you need to fill in spoiler bolt holes(requires re-painting trunk).

Not to sound like a promotional ad for spoilerdepot.com, but they use a total of 8 coats when they do their spoilers. I cant vouche for the seller you are looking to buy it from, but I can say with absolute certainty that i am 100% satisfied with my spoilerdepot spoiler, and I am very detail oriented so if there was even the slightest blemish in the finish i would have seen it and been unhappy. Now hows that for an unsolicited testimonial?!

Are there any differences at all between the Factory and spoilerdepot.com spoiler? Even in the built-in LED?

I'm with 2002acuraTL on this one. I purchased a spoiler for my '98 Integra from SpoilerDepot and was very happy with the fit and finish. The color match was spot on as well.

The LED's did not seem as bright as what I would have expected but worked just fine.

I've never put my TL side by side with a TL that has the OEM spoiler to compare the brightness of the LEDs. Red LEDs are usually all about the same amount of brightness (the OEM one doesnt use anything special as far as the type of LED). I did read somewhere that the width of the LED strip on the OEM spoiler may be an inch or two wider. So you might end up with 4 extra LEDs across the strip with the OEM. I dont think that would justy paying so much more for it even if that is the case.

The dealer wont ever know. To them, they getting the car back WITH a spoiler. I'd stick with a factory-style. I'm in the same position...leased car....got my spoiler from spoilerdepot.com off ebay.

By the way, you CAN install it yourself. On the truck lid there are 4 bubbles of paint where you drill the holes (2 on each side). The factory-style ones fit exact.

I ended up calling the dealer, and he said that you can install tint, spoiler, bodykit etc, but not things like suspension. After all, i'm sure they like it if they get a free spoiler with a lifetime warranty.

Spoiler - resale value

Sounds like an aftermarket spoiler should be fine.

Is the general feeling it will add or detract value from the car?

I would guess the dealer would always like it in a trade because it will be different from their other used TLs.

Also, is self installing really an option? The idea of drilling a hole into my truck is a bit scary.

The only thing you'll notice the difference between aftermarket & OEM spoiler is there's no A C U R A marks under the spoiler(behind the brake light).

I just got my OEM replica spoiler from spoilerdepot.
6 days from order to my door.

What should I expect to pay to have it installed and can I just take it anywhere? I'm in Ft. Lauderdale area during the days.

(BTW, I agree, the painting job they did was a perfect match)

About $50, not more than $100. Call local bodyshop & get a quote. Good luck!!
