Another tranny victim :(

My girlfriend and i were on our way to orlando for my birthday (may) when i reach sarasota, and hour and a half away from my house, my car begins to feel funny, i look in my rear view mirror, so much smoke! got it towed to a shop my cousin knows about (Monteray Transmissions, very good shop) and they tell me my worst fear, my tranny is gone the previous owner had it rebuilt but the guy from monteray said a bunch of things were overlooked. i hate my tl right now, i need some new goodies to make me feel better about it again, but i spent 2400 on the transmission fix.. hopefully i feel better about it or that baby is gone

Coils coming soon, maybe when i scrape the shit out of it ill feel better about spending so much money on it lol

do you need coils based on fault codes or any diagnostics?
usually multi cyl misfire code is just 1 bad coil- 50 bucks

smoke from trans WOW!!!
how many miles on the aftermarket rebuild?
how many miles total on car?

the gear shifting issues come from before the recall oil jet kit

back then you could snap the 2nd gear shaft and go from 5th to 2nd at freeway speed

bummer 20k from the rebuild--or awesome! you got another 100 from it

with the amount of parts damage your trans will have suffered this time,
I would make sure they can transfer any warranty to new owner,,
and you quickly find one~

coilovers,,understand have teinSS, found dent in exhaust the other day, and many scrapes on cusco lower frame crossbar,,at least thats protecting the cat!!

had rear seat passengers for the first time, scrape rub scrape rub scrape is all I hear up 10 miles of bumpy road. lots of tire edge to fender action shows in mud on tire sidewall afterwards! shocks set at min. stiffness,,, oooops

Meagan doesn't make coils for our cars...Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty certain of that. Best coils to get for a slam would be Function & Form, best balance of ride and performance Tein Basic/SS. The best setup IMO is Koni sport struts with Eibach springs.

Sucks to hear about your tranny, it's simply money that would have gone nicely to a lot of mods. Hopefully your TL treats you well for the rest of the time you own it.

^I have to give my support for the koni yellows, damn good piece of engineering.

but if you wanna slam, then go FF1s next best option by far

Sorry to hear about your trans man. Same thing happened to me a few years ago when i was heading home on the I-10; almost had a semi in my trunk when it popped into second going 75 down the road.

So 01tl4tl post about the freeway speeds is true.

thats really odd to have a downshift on freeway issue unless the trans was tweaking before that day and you kept driving it

In the past- the issue before the `recall installed oil jet kit` was actual breakage of the 2nd gear shaft, which I think also handles 5th gear,,so it would do a downshift or worse, a total lockup of trans at 70!! now THAT was exciting!!

So I stand corrected--its possible to still have a sudden downshift
BUT
I believe thats after the trans has been showing other symptoms~
Im entitled to my opinion~ however close to right or wrong it is!!

Ya it stuttered on an up-shift a few days before; didn't think much of it until i saw the recall. And I was actually on my way to the dealer to get it looked at being that it was still under warranty. Figures right.
