My ride just got totalled (90 White Legend Coupe), I've always admired the TL. Have started looking in the papers and the local dealerships. Have seen a few 99's at approximately $15,000. With miles in the 40 - 50k range. (New York area).

Anything I need to know in terms of pricing, mechanical issues, what to look out for?

Any advice will help - I know nothing about the TL.

I would suggest a 00 or 01 before the 99. The 99 was only a four speen aoutmatic and was kicked up to a five in 2000. As far as mechanical issues you can do a search but they are for the most part worry free. Tranny issues didn't come into play until the 02 and early 03 models (lucky me). Before you go to the dealership, go on AUTOTRADER.com amd do a search for all TL's 2000-2001 any price range and see what they are going for retail. That way you don't pay too much at a dealer. Also try to get Acura certified because they push the powertrain warrenty up to 7yr 100k mile from date of the cars original purchese. Good luck, keep it in the Acura familly!

 

I have to agree, try to find a 2000 & above TL. You can even get an 02 TL-S w/Navi w/ aprox. 50k miles for 20k.

 

My only advice for the TL/CL buyer...run away!!!!! Not walk...RUN!!

Get something better...like Lexus etc...and save yourself headache on tranny issues.

 

Don't try to scare someone awy because of your misfortune. I beat the living hell out of my 03 TLS for the past year and a half. No problems whatsoever. For every pissed off Acura owner like you, there are thousands of happy owners like me.
This is my 5th Acura for a reason. And I think if we had 45K or 50K laying around we would all be in a Lex or BMW

 

I agree, go with a 2000+ and forget what randomwalk says. I love my TL and will probably get another Acura when I'm done with this one. If your lucky, you might be able to get a TL-S for $20,000. Check the sales/wanted section.
