air filter housing

trying to replace my air filter in 2003 Type S and the two Phillips head screws are very difficult to remove. Removed one but the other one won't budge and I'm afraid I've ruined the grooves in the head. Any ideas what to do now other than go to dealer?

Ive used a 8mm socket instead of the screwdriver. Comes right off.

Steve, Get a 8mm socket on it. If you don't have one... You can play primitive steve.. Use a phillips screw driver and a hammer.. keep turning force on the screw driver and tap the top of it. They make an inpact driver that does what I stated above, which works 99.9% of the time. But since you didn't use a 8mm on it, you probably don't have the socket nor the impact driver. So try taping the top of the screw driver. You're best bet is to use a 8mm on it. If you dont have simple hand tools hit sears...
honda/acura
8mm
10mm
12mm
14mm
17mm
19mm
Pick up a 1/4 3/8 up 14mm sockets 17mm and 19mm sockets as 1/2
pick up a few wrenches. With these tools you can strip the car down to the chassis

Thanks. The 8mm socket did the trick and got the stubborn screw off. The should have constructed it with easy clips!

Yes, very annoying. I had no problem getting my screws off, just getting them back on - especially with that tight fit next to the fender.
