Air cleaner element?
Question about air cleaner element, and CAI
hey guys,
I was looking at the acura website, and it states that for my upcoming service at 24000 km I will need the air cleaner element replaced. At the bottom of the site it says "Other required maintenance" and the first thing it says is 12 mos/24 000 km service- Type S...replace air cleaner element.
I was wondering if they are referring to the air filter in the car. If so, I will buy a K&N filter, hand it too them, and have them replace it for me in replacement of the stock air filter.
May as well improve the performance of the car, and have an acura techy put it in.
I just want to confirm from someone on this site that it is in fact the air filter that is referred to as the air cleaner element by acura.
Another question. If I were to install an AEM CAI at the end of this winter, does this mean that the entire stock airbox would come out? I would appear that there's a rubberized cone that acts as a cover attached to the throttle body, and that passage leads into a large box located on the right of the engine bay, when looking at the car from the front end. Would this entire air box be removed, and replaced by the AEM CAI???
I'm thinking that if the stock airbox needs replacing every 24000km, and I can simply install an CAI where I can clean the filter, then essentially once the car is at the end of its lease, I will have paid for the CAI, by not having to replace the air filter every 24k km. And the plus side is I will get more power out of it. What are you suggestions to me, I would rather get more power, and not have to constantly replace the air filter.
Let me know guys,
thanks

I don't think the air cleaner element is the same thing as the air filter. In fact, I think it's the micron air filter through which air pases before reaching the interior of the car (heating/cooling). It is located behind the glove box according to another post.
As far as the CAI, it would be a good investment because you just have to clean the CAI while the air filter in the airbox needs to be replaced. The CAI, I believe, would require you to remove the stock airbox (the whole part). If I'm wrong, someone else will pitch in I'm sure.

btw, the K & N was hard to find in the Toronto area. I tried 3 or 4 Crappy Tire stores, and a couple PartsSource stores. No luck.
Bought it from WeatherTech Canada (Marcor Hamilton); service was great and they were cheapest - $73 C$.

Like so many others, I broke a clip when installing the K & N. Let the dealer do it - that's my advice.

Check out Performance Improvements @ Kennedy Rd. N of Lawrence on the West side. I ordered mine there and they got it in less that 24 hrs. Same price.
Jeff, someone experienced with an aftermarket CAI on this group stated that it was a b*tch to clean and access the filter. Your gas mileage may also be affected (since you monitor it closely). Most folks I know develop a heavy foot just to hear the CAI open up.
Might want to save up for an Ice Box. Heard that's pretty good.

Does anyone have a spare stock airbox? I just broke the tab on mine (I took out the K&N filter for cleaning and the tab snapped off). The other tab doesn't seem to be clicking in either, so I am just running on the two screws.
I was thinking about drilling a hole and securing the lid with a tie wrap, but there doesn't seem to be a place (like a lip) to drill a hole there.
Another thought - does the hood press down on the lid at all? If it does, then the lid should be fine.

just having the two screws is fine, as long as there is no gaps, which there shouldnt be. no need to use any external items to tie it down further.
The hood does not touch your airbox at all. If anyones stock airbox is then something is wrong.
HTH.
