After a fling w/ a VW I'm back to an Acura!

A couple of months ago my wife and I decided to say goodbye to my beloved 01 CL-S. With 2 small children it was decided that we needed a 4 door. We also rationalized to look for a car we could get serviced in town since the nearest Acura dealer was 2 hours away. After a search, I settled on an '03 VW Passat W8 6-speed. Nice car but after 2 months, I was missing my Acura and the crappy 6-speed was wearing out its welcome. To make a long story short, I ended up trading the W8, getting money back, and picking up an ABP 02 TL-S w/ 30k. The tranny has already been replaced (May of '04), it runs great, and I am back in love with an Acura. The moral of the story is, I learned my lesson. Whenever I need a new car, I only need to look at Acuras and Hondas (my wife has a Pilot) because I won't be happy with anything else. (except maybe a Porche, Ferrari, Lambo, Skyline, etc... you get the picture! lol)

If you get Motortrend, read the long term test of the W8 6-speed they had. It pegs my problems with the car exactly....the sub-par tranny. Plus, 40k for a Passat!!?? Thank God I only paid 1/2 of that for mine. Bottom line, I love Acuras!

Would you like to share more about things that you don't like on the VW W8 ? Just curious.

For starters, the gearbox in the thing was lousy! It was almost impossible to start out without giving your passenger whiplash. It got to the point where shifting became a chore and wasn't fun. That was when it was time to move on.
