I was wondering if I should replace my engine right now that has 150,000mi on it with one off ebay with about 30,000 miles on it. The engine is a 99' and i can get it for under $800 so you guys think it be a good idea? I do have some mods and getting more and i do drive it like a highschool kid. Im just think to get more life out of the car. Thanks Jim

 

you must have hit the bottle early ehh. You dont have any way of knowing that the engine has 30k on it nor will you ever unless they are selling the emc & cluster with it. Even then they can always reprogram the eeprom. With proper maintenance you can get 300k+ with your engine and you know the exact milage on yours

Stay away. The fact that the engine is $800 should scare you off. I mean, Comptech Headers alone are around $1100. From what I've read, the engine usually runs $6k-$8k.... so $800 would have me very worried....

 

I agree, an engine for 800 sounds too good to be true. Spend your 800 on modding your car and dont worry about the motor. At 130,000miles you havent even broken her in yet!

 

thts not a bad price. a NEW engine is less than 6-8k.

but there is no reason to get a new engine if your is fine. my car is quicker with 179,000 miles on it than it was wit 30k (well it was last time i went to the strip at around 155k, and i know it hasnt changed)

 

faster now than it was at 30k LOL what the hell are you feeding it ?

no really, what kind of maint. work do you guys get done ? I just purchased my 2000TL at 85k, the engine seems fine but the tranny jerks at times.

 

nothing other than oil changes. and 1 spark plug change at 115k. oh and 3 tranny replacements. every thing else is stock
