acura not wanting to replace tranny!!!!!!
acura not wanting to replace tranny!!!!!!
So i brought my car to Acura this morning and the mechanic found the tranny to be deffective, the problem is that i'm out of warranty by 15 DAYS, so they offered to pay 65% of the cost. I brought in my car a few months ago cause I thought that I had tranny issues but the tech that looked at it said it's fine,so I left it at that.
I went yesterday for that issue again and the tech said it's fine"no codes".
I left my car over night, and this morning another tech checked it and said it needs replacing. How can i get them to cover 100% of the cost?

I would not leave until they replaced it.
1. The tranny is a notorious failer
2. You went in well before your warranty lapsed stating that your car was having a problem (you are the driver of it every day, you know, even if they didn't detect it, you stated it existed) and wanting it fixed. Thus, they are liable for the tranny.
3. 15 DAYS, get a grip!
Get angry. Talk to the bosses bosses boss if you have to. They should take care of you, ther person that puts a few bucks into their wallet.

hes canada Matt- they are different low miles warranty
The general Acura policy is: If you brought it in and they could not find the problem but documented the concern- they will ~Goodwill~ you a trans WHEN it fails past time or miles
They know you tried- they tried- enuff said
Speak with the SERVICE MANAGER ONLY
the service Writer/Advisor is out to make every buck- think commission sales person when speaking with them
the Manager has to report to Acura when there are complaints
Try the nice approach with the Manager- and if no luck call customer care- they do this every day in the states.

Was there an invoice made by the dealer?
They dont usually send a guy out on test rides without paperwork
That paper is your proof

So the warrantys for the pre-03 TLs are up to 7 years and 9 months / 109k miles, whichever comes first of course. So you might still fall under warranty acutally if you did not know about the entended 9 months.
Oh, noticed you're from Canada. So I'm not sure if this applies to Canadians.
Just got the phone with customer service and they made me their "final" offer.
He said they will cover 75% of the tranny and that is after management reviewed my case.He srtessed that this is their final offer and is valid till tuesday.
I went to the dealer and spoke with the manager there and he offered to knock off 10% off the labour and they will also replace the 2 mounts that need to be replaced.
I have no choice but to take the offer!!!!!!!!!!!!!Not sure I would buy another Acura/Honda again.

THat is still wrong. I would let the managers boss know that (Whoever is in charge of the dealership). Due to them not covering the extra few hundred $ they are losing thousands. Service manager isn't getting it done, talk to his boss.
Did you ever find an invoice for the prior visit?

there was never a recall on the trans!
It was to install an external oil jet sprayer kit- affected several model years
The replacement trans has it built inside.
Canada and USA are totally different in how trans warranty is handled and duration.
They did not have the court case- we did. Gen2 canuks are lucky if they get 100k miles warranty. New usa TLs only get 50K Miles warranty and they are experienceing similar failures to ours.
A grand for a fresh trans and mounts is a good deal- should come with 3 year warranty
Other car makers- the whole car dies at 100k miles, at least its only the trans for us~

Your replacement trans will come in a brand new outer case- which allegedly has bigger oil passageways and better cooling to the clutch packs. Its still not perfect but chances are if nothing feels funny in the first few months- you got a winner.
Other fail and warranty covers it. My replacement is trying hard to quit, and I am encouraging it to do so.
Other parts inside- the rubber belts and parts that wear out all get new.
Some metal hard parts like shaft or gears get recycled from other old units that come in.
Everything has to be tested and meet spec limits.
Overall- they are much improved.
Makes sure you know you radio and nav codes if applicable- in case the discon the battery.

yes the oil jet kit is built inside now. The issue of not enough cooling to 2nd and 3rd gear clutches still remains. There is simply not enough physical room inside the case to fit a bigger set of things to fix the prob.

why would the dealer care about this customer-? if they get a grand from him- that great!
If he doesnt use them- oh well- we got other cars to fix
OP did not say he bought the car there or had a long term relationship with them.
Remember too- this is taking place in canada where usa laws and conditions do not apply
If the customer goes to aamco for a 2500$ rebuild, then later has to come buy a unit from them...they dont care, they still make money

The reason they should care is because the customer is what sustains them. $1000 is nothing in comparison to the revenues gained from car sales. Good business is "Well, even though you are out of warranty, our service dept remembers your previous inquiry about your tranny, and I feel that we owe you that service under your warranty. Thank you for your patience and sorry about the headache." You are a business man. You know what I am saying.
They should care because
That $1000 will cost them $40k - 50k. That is why they should care about this customer.
If you were offered $1000 at the expense of $40 - 50k, would you take that measly 1grand? Not I.
1 angry customer can do enough damage that only 10 good ones can offset.

These trans are not the best but I think Honda did more than what they had to-7 Year/107K miles? Members on this board should see the amount of Benz trans failure, And what does MBUSA do when the car runs out of warentee-Nothing! Then "maybe" people on this board can see how Honda Motors bend backwards for their customers. As for 1st Timer, talk to the "Service Director", Tell him that you are under the mileage for the age/year of the vehicle and you feel that you are qualify for a replacement trans since you are only 15 days out of warentee. Also, tell him, You had the vehicle in a few months ago for 2nd to 3rd gear hang, but apparently the tech could not duplicate the concern. -good luck
