Aahhh Crap!!
Aahhh Crap!!
I cant believe i let this happen. Tonight, my friend and i went to the local taco bell and he ordered the 44 oz Dr Pepper (can u guess what happens next). I pull into his neighborhood and i decide to give him a demo on what the TL-S can do. So i speed up to about 30 and slam on the brakes right before we get to his house, and BLAM, it happens. The 44 oz DR pepper that i placed into the cupholder flys foreward and spills all over everything!! Even the stereo was caked in Dr Pepper, not to mention pratically everything else (including the gear shift knob and the seat heaters). After this happened, i headed to the nearest car wash and vacuummed out all the liquids i possibly could.
Damnit, im so mad at myself. Anyo

If that was my car I would take apart everything that got covered in Dr. Pepper.
Especially paying special attention to clean out the switches.
When I had my Z, a 12oz can of Sprite punctured and leaked between the seat and the center console. I came home immediately and removed the seats and rolled up the carpet and pulled out the Green Machine
:o :p

dr pepper is one of the stickest drinks....for the switches wise your assed out if you dont rip it down to the guts of the switch to clean it with something like windex.....if you dont do a good job...you well see your buttons getting stuck in the following days expect it no matter wat you cant possible clean it back to normal...
I never allow uncovered drinks in my car...I considered uncovered anything with a non screw on cap. And for fast food or nasty crap like that you always have to twist the top of the bag shut. As for you poor soul...I suggest you go invest in 4 things:
1) good sponge
2) lexol vinyl cleaner
3) lexol leather cleaner
4) soft bristle brush with LONG bristles (think toilet bowl brush)
I've noticed that lexol seems to eat sticky stuff...I absolutely love it. I cleaned my old car up before I sold it and it was almost magical. Soak your carpet in a MILD detergent solution, and rinse it a whole lot. I say mild because if you use the scrubbers at the car wash that spit out carpet foam...or if you use heavy detergent...your carpet will soak up 2x more dirt than it used to...soap attracts dirt, funny the thing that makes soap good makes it bad too. Use the bristle brush to get into nooks and crannys...but I would definitely take my car apart.

There are a number of important connectors, switches, relays, etc. in the console area below the radio: SRS, assembly line diag. link (ALDL), etc. In electronic gear, sticky stuff attracts dirt in the air, and over time, the conductive materials can either increase the bulk resitivity of the wiring, cause an intermittent short, etc.
If any got on the transmission selector (which ois just a switch), it can interfere with proper ranny operations (I posted this a while back in a month RR Insider Info).
If this were my car, I would disconnect the neg batt cable, disassemble the area, and carefully clean everything.
Now, before you go and hang yourself, there is hope: pull out the access panel to the ALDL (it is in between the seat warmer switches and just pulls out). With a flashlight, carefully inspect the wiring and switches. If they are wet, or glistening of your beloved Dr P, bite the bullet and clean everythoing.
WARNING: It is possible to detonate the airbags when playing oin this area - follow the Helm manual for de-activtaing the SRS - if you do not know what you are doing, plead insanity and beg the dealer to help you out. Hell, if some people on the Forum got their dealers to replace a foglight lens under warranty, anything is possible! Good luck!

Good news:
I got up early this morning to check out the car. It seems that the majority of the drink spilled on the floor somehow. Fortunately, i found i was able to remove pretty much all of the DR P from the switches, gearshift, etc (it was 12:30 am at the time, so i couldnt tell). I forgot to mention that the vacuum i used dispensed cleaning foam which got most of the DR P out of my carpet without any hasle. But from now on, no one can bring a drink into the car unless it fits snugly into the cupholder.
Thanks for your help everyone

Never challenge the law of physics!
Your seat belts won't completely keep your body from moving forward away from your seat, even if doing a hard stop from 30-0; given the physical dimensions and attributes of your typical 44 oz. cup, I sorta doubt that a cupholder can do the same to said cup. Just remember that the next time you test your car's capabilities...
Bummer about the Dr. P though; at least you were able to clean it off before it could do some serious damage.
