Hello all. I m not on this forum alot but i have a question to ask about my mother's 99 TL.

I have been to Ramsey Acura, Park Ave. Acura and over the phone from Kea Honda in Nanuet, NY. All have given me the same answer. Driving the car in auto mode most of the time the car seems to not shift into 4th gear. At 60MPH the RPM's are 3500 at 80 it is at 4000 RPM's. I think this is rediculous. However when i shift into manual mood it shifts and the RPM's go down and the engine quiets down. I don't know what to do and am starting to hate this car. My mom doesn't know much about cars and drives fairly slow but is oblivous to things like this. I now drive the car in manual mode just cause it kills me to hear the engine kill itself. Anyhow. I hope u all know what i m talking about and have an answr for me. Oh and the tranny supposedly was replaced 10 months ago brand new at Ramsey. Or so the dealer said so. I doubt it but it sucks to hear the car racing and struggling. Any help is greatly appreciated. Oh and the dealers all say its normal. Is it cause they just don't want to replace the tranny again. And that its not a priority.

I'm on a '99TL also, your car its not shifting into 4th... 60miles=2000rpm@4th gear. If your car is under warranty have em replace it.

i have brought it to two different acura dealers. And they say there is nothing wrong with the car. I know there is a problem but they say no so no service for me.

at 80 mph in my 99 TL my RPMs are at 2700... definately replace tranny. LOL... mines in the shop now for a tranny replacement!

hey, is it possible that if i break my '99 tranny that i can replace with the 00+ 5speed tranny?

no, many other factors come into play with a 5 speed. you would have to get a whole new ecu and other stuff to go with it. i guess it is possible...cause you can pay to get anything done. but its not an easy swap from what i have read.

Ok so what should i do next since i have had two acuras tell me it is normal. Should i report this to the better business bureau. Cause i m ready to trade this POS in.

Expect more things like this to happen, and vow to buy a lexus next time. I've had horrible service at acura (especially dealing with rotors and cd player).

(not trying to flame, I love my car, but wouldn't buy another honda or acura after dealing with the local dealer..)

i just blew my tranny about 4 hours ago doing 85mph on the i-5, when i first noticed my tranny was having problems is when i accelerate hard and the car shifts into second, it will chirp the tires when it shift into second and sometimes it chirps in third gear if you are in vtec rpm range. The worst part of it all is im 550 miles out of my warranty!!! 99 Tranny's are going for about $1795 w/o install
