99 TL Tranny gone at 100K.......HELP
OK,
Here goes my car finally hit 100K it has 100,025 exactly as of now.
Tranny is definately going and i am like Fu(king thing now you go.....
How I can tell it is gone well it just jumps and I feel when I press the gas but car does not move and it just makes a clunking sound when it is shifting into second it has never been like this.
I know I just past the warranty do you think Acura will still pick up the tab?
What would you suggest I do?
I plan on making an appointment here in Paragon Acura on Monday morning and call 1-800 acura. To notify them as well. The dealer is just 10 blocks from where the car is right now. I bought this car from somewhere else will that have any effect?
I really don't want to fork over several thousand to fix that damn tranny.
The car has not given problems for 2 years but now tranny is dead.
Please help....

I really don't think they are going to give you a hard time with going over by only 25 miles. There are guys on here that have had multiple trannies changed well past 100K miles.

I will go tommorow to the dealer. To make an appt.
What do they ask for that day you take it in?
Or do they just take it after you tell them it is a busted tranny.
Is there anything I should tell them or do before I go?
This is my first time so just wanted to ask other's who have gone through this.

Ok.
This morning I called Paragon Acura. I made an appt. over the phone it is in one week Monday morning the 27th.
I also called the 1800 acura. They have said my 99 TL is under the extended warranty. The rep told me that if dealer would not fix it under warranty then I need to give them a case number which they gave me. Then a Case Manager would get involved.
Now I told the lady on the phone that the car has just slightly under 100k and if I drove to the dealer I would put in another 25miles. She said the case manager would have to talk to the dealership to get an answer. Thus I would still arrive at the dealer with 100,025 miles.
What have others done when the Case Manager get's involved.
thanks

I personally think Paragon Acura blows, I brought it in b/c of noise from suspension (tein ss & Comptech sway install from third party) and they charged me a little over a hundred to tell me thats how it is b/c of aftermarket parts. They didn't even lub or take apart my coilovers.

TLNY, let us know how it goes with your tranny case. I don't see them giving you a hard time since your so little over the milage.
fsttyms1, how did it go with your last tranny that went out?

I hope they dont give you a hard time.... if they do they should be shot. but on a more realistic note... I doubt they will. If they do, take it to another dealer i guess! honestly, this is perfect for you. you went through a 100K miles with no tranny problems, and then now you will get a free one!

I think there is a lot of confusion going on as it relates to these transmission warranties and all, hopefully I can help to clarify things here. Please keep in mind that there is a difference between an EXTENDED WARRANTY and a RECALL. They are two separate items. To my knowledge, the extended warranty applies for all second generation TL models for up to 100,000 miles. So yes this includes the 1999 models as well. The tranny on my 1999 model just recently went at 101,250 miles, and the dealership here in ATL was great at replacing the defective unit with no out of pocket expenses. The RECALL, on the other hand, only applies to the five speed transmissions found in the 00-03 models. This does not apply to the 1999 models, as they have the four speed trannies that do not exhibit the same causes of failure. So those of us who own a four-speed tranny (like yours truly), don't go into Acura expecting any oil jet kits or any of the recall related stuff to be done.
Hopefully this helps to clarify things a bit here. Someone please correct if I am wrong, but I believe this is how it works.

Easy Bro, Glad you got yours fixed also.
For 100,025 miles I don't think the dealer will give you any problems. Is this your first transmission that went bad?
Honda/Acura really needs to fix this transmission issue, its really starting to bother me. I say we file a class action law suit. I wanted to keep my car way past 100K but now I am not sure.

I have been away from the net for some time cause have no access to the net at home this is temporary.
That sucks that Paragon blows. I still have the appointment and will go there to see what happens at least.
My tranny initially would jerk, hard shift, would even press the gas a little and would not budge except make a sound like trying to move but not. I drove around for half a block and it seemed fine.
That sucks cause I guess if it shows no symptoms they won't wanna fix it.
I will drive around for 5 blcoks and see what happens tommorow. I will post up results tommorow (sun).

Holy shit!!! Yea I LOVE chuck. I wont let anyone else even lay a finger on my car. he has helped me out so many times. Thats so odd. Carland is by far the best dealership I have ever been to, and I was in the car business selling 2000+ porsches, lexus, mercedes, and bmw's.... great service there.

Have them talk to Honda/Acura..........
My daughter's used 98 Accord just lost the tranny. Honda is replacing the tranny and torque converter for $700 (basically their labor costs). Treat this as a negotiation. They have a defective product and they know it. They were great about my TL/S, which was under warranty, and $700 ain't a bad deal on a used car with 90,000 miles.
