I just purchased a 99 TL and was curious on a few things:

1st off....
The stock Navi is it possible to upgrade it from the factory stock 99 Navigation to the newer DVD/Navigation units? Is it a straight a plug and play or no?

2nd off.....
The transmission from the newer models is it compatible with the 99 engines? Im guessing there the same engine and can be swapped.

3rd off.....
Im looking for a set of Red/Clear taillights. Stock wing spoiler. 5 spoke rims. I believe there all from the 02-03 TL years.

Congrats.

1st - Search
2nd - Anything is possible with enough money and time. You'd need more than just the trans. Read more and you'll find out you do not want a trans from a newer TL.
3rd - Search

 

1. a search MIGHT yield results.. if not then come bac kand ask the question again..
2. since the 99' had a 4spd tranny.. the swap would just be the tranny.. you need gauge cluster, shifter assembly, and some more thing i dont know about..
3. Black Market Section.. Is where you;ll find many if not all of the items your looking for, if you need any help PM me or just ask!

 

Okay after searching for sometime now I did find out that the DVD/Navi is a straight pnp from the old hard drive Navi. Thank God. This Hard Drive one sucks. Next question would be where the hell would I find one of these at for a reasonable price?

As for the Transmission, didnt know it was going to be needing that much stuff for it. Ill probably just settle with the stock one. Ill probably still look into it just for more details on it.

I was doing some research for the tail lights and the cheapest I found was around $200. Is there a place I can get it cheaper? Also Im debating if I should go with the stock 03 rims or with some aftermarket ones? What wheels are most of you all running?

03 stock rims are the safest and probably the best looking, and its suited for our TL's! the 02-03taillamps go for 70 bucks each on ebay. good luck with everything

 

What do you mean the safest? As for looks the 02 & 03 should be the same style right? I also like the 04 style. But will it bolt up to the 99 body style? Also is there a difference in Stock wing spoilers between the 99-03?

So your telling me the 04 rims will rub on the second gen TL's? Are the offsets that different? What if I was to put in a spacer wouldnt that help?

Okay....so what other style wings do people put on there cars? Or are the factory wings the best for our cars?

The reason people suggest either doing a search or to read through the messages on the forum is that answers to all the questions you've asked are there. How do I know? Because I've read them since I joined last December. There are also many threads on the various kinds of spoliers people have installed, from OEM, to ones on ebay that look like OEM, to ones for BMW. Most of the threads include pictures as well.

 

Thanks. Did the search and seems like theres a alot of people with problems of fitament with the 04 wheels due to the offset. So this is what I have decided:
03 Wheels
Factory Wing
02-up Red/Clear Taillights
02-up Navi Unit
And Im calling it good.
