99 TL Overheating problem

Hello, after driving the car for a few minutes i notice that it will start getting hot when waiting for a light. I usually pop it in neutral and rev it for a little while to get the temperature to come down. The water pump and timing belt was changed and so was the thermostat. Anyone else have this problem before? Any help is appreciated, thanks

Make sure that the cooling system is purged of any air pockets and check that both fans work properly.
Could possible be a faulty thermosensor for the cooling fan ?

yeah- burp the cooling system per the owner book method, its different than other cars of course- its our TL! It must be free of air or fan sensor gets fooled and doesn't turn on when you need it!!!
heater must be on full hot during burp process- roll windows down to avoid heatstroke
then you can test for fan operation with ac off and ac on
if the driver fan runs for 10 minutes after engine shutdown- (after the burp is done) that means you need fan sensor A which is a typical failure
99 is located at thermostat, later years on passenger side lower corner rear side of radiator
ck your wire connections to the sensors there, clean and tight is right~

Try jumpering power directly to the cooling fan's connector to make sure that it works.

you will know if the primary fan works during burp- procedure involves waiting for that fan at idle and 2000 rpm!

free download of owner book with factory correct procedure for burping of your year is at Acura Owners Site | Exclusive Knowledge, Service, & Benefits need cars VIN

wow I typed something else but it converted the link!

side note- after that water pump timing belt job = make sure the ps pump belt is slightly loose- its spec calls for that or it will roast the pump in short order if tight like normal belt

Sounds like you have a massive air bubble somewhere or your radiator isn't building enough pressure. Check your rad cap.

Mine started this just this week. Dead driver's side cooling fan. New fan motor on its way.

did you swap the relay and fuse to make sure it was the motor
was the blade frozen in place or not spinning as easy as norma?
how did you diagnose, help a future reader who encounter fan issue

of main driver side fan is the `temp sensor A failure`

Fan was pretty much locked up. Had been making a little noise before.
Replaced with a new motor last night, old motor shaft was nearly seized up.

It's been replaced before, had a NAPA fan motor. We'll see on the drive home if it's fixed, as that's when I noticed the temps rising.

I had a similar issue and chased it for a while after replacing the radiator (it cracked). The fan motor was shot, so I replaced it. I purge the system and it was still overheating. It ended up being the radiator cap. The new one that came with the autozone radiator was useless. Popped on the OEM one and everything was OK.

Figured I'd share and I'm glad I kept the OEM cap since the radiator blew out on a trip to Atlanta, had to replace quickly and get back home.

After putting the fan in Wednesday, seemed fine on my commute to work. Still got really hot on the drive home. Though maybe I'd wired it backward. Got home & it wasn't running.

Culprit was a blown fuse All good now.

Does the cooling fan seem to activate and cycle when it should ?

Everything seems to be working properly now.
Now to tackle the FR hub bearing.

Should be back in normal order after that. Just little things then. Driver's seat recline doesn't work (stuck in a comfortable position luckily), driver's seat heater inop, windshield (previous owner cracked it trying to remove the bled over ISRV mirror).

Thanks so much guys, no more overheating problems after properly purging the system. I also replaced the radiator cap while i was at it. My temps stay the same while driving with the a/c on blast and switching to heat.
