99 TL keeps cutting off

I searched the forums for a related thread, couldn't find one...so sorry if this is a repost.

Our 99 TL has about 97,000 miles on it now. And in the past few months it has cut off a few times. It will shut off and won't start back, won't turn over, anything. The lights and electrical still work when this happens. After a few minutes the car will start back and its fine. This happened about a month ago and we took it to a local shop and they couldn't determine any problem. Well, this past week it happened again while my wife was driving. It eventually started back and she was headed home (as I was coming to meet her to make sure she made it), it shut off again on the way. We took it back to the shop and they put it on a diagnostic machine only to say again, they didn't know what the problem was.

I know if I take it to the dealer they are going to charge me out the ass regardless of what the problem is (small or large). I've had some friends say it could be as simple as changing the spark plugs (but the manual doesn't recommend a tune-up until 105,000 miles, right?). Another friend said it could be one of the coils. If that's the problem, how much would that cost to fix and how do I know that's the problem?

Any information would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

I had a Accord that did that. It was a....ignition module. It sure sounds like an ignition issue. I would be driving and all of a sudden it would die.My car would turn over but it would start so I would wait a few minutes, sometimes longer and it would start back up.

It cant be your coil, because it would still turn over even if the coils were bad. I know they had a recall on the ignition switches; might wana call the dealer and ask them about it. If you get someone nice, they might give you some ideas.

Might wana have your starter tested.

Not sure if you got the car new or used, but there are two different issues with the ignition that Acura replaces free-of-charge in the '99s. Make sure these recalls have been performed on your car if they have not been done already.

P.S. I have no idea if this is related to the problem you are experiencing
