99 TL cut off in middle of road...

It was about 27 degrees this morning and my wife headed out to work like she normally does. She let the car warm up for about 3-5 minutes and headed to work. She called me about 5 minutes later and said that the car had stopped while she was driving and she was in the middle of the street. The car will turn over but immediately dies. I saw a lil water (cup full) or something on the ground under the car but looking from the top I don't see anything nor did the tow truck guy when he got under there to hook the car to the chains of the flat bed. The car has 120,000 miles on it.

Ok, here's an update: I just went outside and the car would crank up but it would shutter pretty badly and wanted to stall out with low RPMs. If I give it a lil gas it seems ok. What would cause it to shut off in mid drive like that?

it could be ur alternator perhaps. Happened on my accord once or twice the speedo would just die out and not work then the car would die out. But u said u had of water under the car? could that be from somewhere else?

It is possible the water could have been from somewhere else. There is no cell when I tried to turn it on earlier and the TCS light isn't staying on. This has me pretty confused. If the belt snapped then the car wouldn't turn over at all right?

If the belt snapped the starter would turn the motor but it wouldnt start. to fire. Plus you would hear the valves hitting the pistons.

Once running does it run fine if above idle speed?

could be the alternator. I have a 1gCL, but I am experiencing similar symptoms in cold weather. My car has a hard time staying on and dims alot during the cold, and in fact once turned off while i was going 30 (but started again immediately.)

*also, the abs light will turn on, my headlights will flicker, my radio will turn off, and a ticking sound will come from my glovebox. Do you experience any of this?*

I have asked members in 1g and most said alternator.

I understand these are two different cars, but maybe its the same problem. Good luck, hope you find what's wrong.

I really haven't drove it about neighborhood speeds since this morning but it does seem to run fine above 600 rpms but if I'm not giving it gas it shutters and cuts off. sometimes it'll stay on but idol very low.

Sounds like its just a low idle problem? If its idling below 600 rpm and lower thats most likely the problem. It could be a IAC problem? the idle screw may need to be adjusted. could be a few things

Ok, I went back outside to try again. Again it will start right up but then immediately idle very low. It will smooth out once I apply a little gas. I drove around the neighborhood and everytime I would let off on the gas it would drop down to 1000 rpms after it did that 3 or 4 time the next time it cut off completely. When I try to start it back up it would fire then immediately die. The only way I got it home was I had to apply some gas while holding in the brake to allow me enough rpms to keep it running and get moving.
