99 TL Complete Tune up

What does a full tune up consist of?

How much does it usually run parts+labor for you guys, to have a general idea?

Hey Zeroskillet, when was the last maintenance done ? How many miles presently ?

A basic tune-up of the motor would consist of replacing the plugs with "NGK's", a new air filter and pcv valve. Less than $100 for parts. Than just save the $100 on labor by "DIY". This stuff is not all that difficult if ya can turn a ratchet for the plugs. Read the DIY sticky for more info. Relatively easy to do !!!!

If your car has been neglected for awhile, there are other things that ya may want to consider doing at this time. Many other common issues can cause the car to run poorly, even after a basic tune-up. Do you have any problems with idling or any other general stuff out of the norm ?

Tune up would generally consist of spark plugs and fluid changes.

~6 spark plugs ngk iridiums are recommended 45.00
~radiator fluid drain and fill. 2 gallons 25.00
~sea foam gas tank, crank case and vac lines. 20.00.

These are simple and an inexpensive way to tune up your vehicle. Step by step procedures are in the diy section...

Hey Zeroskillet, has the 105k T-belt servicing been performed ?
Normally, that's the time for the first complete tune-up. Things like Skirmich previously suggested, plus valve adjustment and electrical system check.

Also, the TB intake, EGR passageways, vac hoses, coolant hoses, and accessory drive belts should be inspected....cleaned or replaced as necessary.

There's really no such thing as a "tune up" anymore. This traditionally covered replacing points, plugs, rotor and condensor. None of these parts exists anymore with exception of the plugs, which now last for over 60K miles.

Super-maintainers will advise to change all the fluids and filters but I've never seen any of those items fail or cause issues. When have you ever heard of brake fluid failing ? I suspect this comes from dealerships who needed to replace the regular maintenance revenues with other services and have come up with these creative new revenue sources. I further suspect that even the recommended service intervals in the owners manual have some incremental revenue bias. However, the owners manual should be the deciding factor, if your looking for some maintenance benchmark.

Save your money and the environment.
