99-03 Tranny Warranty Extension

I just got the letter in the mail for my 99 TL tranny. They are extending the warranty until 93 months or 175,000 KM from the date of sale. Which ever occurs first. This covers cars from 99-03.

Be sure to check your date of sale to determine when your coverage expires.

My 1999 TL was originally purchased in March of 1999 and it's already past the 93 month limit.

Yes, it covers used cars also. One exception would be a car with a salvage title.

But check the original date of purchase. That will be the limiting factor for many 1999 TL owners. (See my post above.)

Got my letter from Acura Canada a few days ago and I am the second owner just as mdub asked above. I had to jump thru a few hoops when I purchased my 2003 TL-S back in Sept. just to confirm that all update correspondence had been put thru by the Acura dealer. Since I got the warranty extension letter addressed to me at my home address obviously the warranty includes all registered owners provided your mileage and purchase date is in play. There is a prepaid card to be filled in if Acura's information on you and your vehicle are not correct. JC

The dealer was wrong. The class action settlement added 9,000 miles to the original 7 year warranty.

7 years + 9 months = 93 months

Extension

When the transmission has been replaced, is there a separate warranty from that date such as 12 month/12,000 miles. I purchased a 99 last week, had been told the transmission was replaced recently. It has 93,000 on it and the dealer records show that the transmission was replaced at 88,000....for the 5th time. Do I need to register anywhere to be eligible if it is available?

If you are past the new warranty extension then the trans that was last installed has a 12month, 12k mile warranty (unless the previous owner got a better warranty with it(some have gotten 3/36) No you dont need to register any where to be eligible. You can go to acura.com and register with owners link to see if your still eligible though

Mine was replaced once in 8/05 and again a few weeks ago at 95,000. I bought mine used. The dealer told me the warranty on the new tranny is 3 years/36,000 miles. I assume that these issues can vary from situation to situation.

I have a 1999 TL with 111,750 and the transmission has been slipping for the last 2,000 miles with hard shifts for about 1,000-3,000 miles prior to that. I didn't pursue warranty work prior to this new extension because the hard shifts and slipping began after the 100,000 mile mark but with the new extension (109,000) i am hoping Acura will help out with the cost of replacing the transmission and motor mounts (which were damaged from the hard shifts) since i am only just shy of 3,000 miles over the new extension. I also reason that at the time of the effective date of the new extension (12/28/06 according to the Acura customer service rep) that i was only about 2,000 miles over 109,000. Because i have never taken my TL to the dealer, of course he was unwilling to fudge the warranty and take care of the repairs. However, the SA was able to get the shipping charges waived which knocked of $350 from the total cost for an estimate of $2600 out the door, $3000 including the motor mounts and a 3/36 warranty.

Anyhow, I called up Acura and they've assigned a case manager to my request to have Acura lend some assistance to the cost of repairs. I've got my fingers crossed but don't really expect anything. My only regret is that i didn't bring in the car to a dealer or indie to inspect the issue of hard shifting as soon as it began because then i would have had documentation that the issue began at around 106,000 or 107,000 miles.

Just had to get that off my chest..

Best of luck with Acura Customer Care.

Did you also check to see when the 84 or 93 month warranty limits were reached for your car? The extended warranty is a "whichever comes first" type so some 1999 TL owners will hit the time limit before the mileage limit.

Good luck. Often times if the dealer was a good one they would for free. My dealer got acura to cover mine 100% at 115k miles (and that was before the updated 109k extension)

2003 Acura TL Type-S

My Acura's transmission just went at 59,000 miles, I called acura and they said my vehicle was not covered under the extended warranty. Anyone else experience any issues??

Its not a problem
read the last few pages of the trans failure thread
Make appointment to speak with service MANAGER and no one else
Take box of donuts with you- then drop car off
They call regional and get you approved- they know it wasnt fixed by a certain VIN- that was for the legal case to settle, they needed a stop point-
And the 100 $ diagnosis fee is covered under warranty as well
