6 Disc In-Dash CD Changer -- 2002 TL

I presently have 4 CDs that are stuck in my CD player and the player will not play, eject or load any more CDs. The code "Er-E1" continues to be displayed whenever the car is started up. The dealership told me to disconnect the battery's positive cable for 5 minutes and then reconnect with the hopes that it would reset itself, but this did not work. I purchaed the car on 6/9, but when I test drove it a few days before the purchase, the CD player worked fine with multiple CDs. I picked it up on 6/13 and once again the CD player operated without any difficulty. It wasn't until 6/23 (10dys after delivery) when the changer went haywire. After some discussion, the sales manager agreed to pick up the tab ($600 - $650) to repair it, but when I took the car in to the dealership yesterday he had not left the ticket for the service department authorizing me to forego the expense.

Any advice would be appreciated.

you took your car in on a sunday??

suggestions? call the person who agreed to the repair and let them know- in a nice way-
that the paperwork had not arrived at service dept, and when could you expect that?

The sales manager may have told a staffer to type up something,,and it didnt happen on time
Assume they want to help you at this point,,so staying positive will go a long way

there are other things that will fail suddenly on the TL! start reading the problens and fixes section

Tip: Keep a window reflective thing in place whenever parked to protect interior equipment..they really do cut 20-50 degrees from the potential cabin temps after parked.
The sunroof tipped open- makes a nice chimney to carry away sone interior heat too
pull the shade back a tick so airflow can happen

I hope you did not undo the POS cable form the battery all by itself?!?!?!?!?!?
If so - the dealership owes you big time for endangering your LIFE!!!!!

remove NEG cable first and install last when working on the battery-
or you become `the path of least resistance to ground`-actual earth ground no less!!
Its not fun being blown backwards thru the air! guess how I know,,
I wasnt always old and wiser from experience

they wanted you to do the neg cable trick so it forces a master ECU reset
and would clear stored radio stations etc,,
but I dont see how that would fix a dead player- which is the cd problem--its dead

When you want or need to reset the ECU- simply remove the CLOCK fuse located on passenger end of dash for 1 minute
iirc its fuse #13 but the labels are clear

the clock fuse is also the secret backup power to the ecu
removal of fuse forces a master reset and relearn- same as yanking the power cord on your home computer instead, of letting it shut down (I dont have an example for mac users)

how come this is a current new thread, but my calender says today is 6-20?
which doesnt match the OP numbers on trouble date

another possible on work invoice- it went to parts dept to order you a new unit,
not something they have laying on the shelf,,,once it came in they would call you to make a service appointment
They might even use a stereo store for that job- cheaper to sublet the work and keep techs working on real jobs that make the shop easy money

or the person you talked to didnt know there was a special INTERNAL work order,,
there is `normal customer pay` paperwork, `warranty` work and `internal`-
which charges themself less inter-dept than street prices

Literally same problem I'm too lazy to fix it though,i just dont use cd's and play music through my phone, to get the cd's out i recommend a business card or something similar that wont damage the cd or the player wiggle it around under the jammed cd or cd's in my case the damn thing went nuts, and get em all out and the code should stop the only way to fix it is to buy a replacement but f*** that I'm just eventually get a new headunit and speakers when i inevitably blow mine, (knock on wood :P).
