5w-40

I will be bring my car to the track next Friday and it is about time for an oil change

my mech recommends me to do the Motul 8100 5W-40 instead of 5W-30 or 5W-20, he said it works better in hot temp and esp on the race track, and it will be much better.

this year is extremely hot and i guess it will work well

I will give it a try anyways, but is there anyone using 5W-40 or higher?

no, 5w30 is going to be fine, 40 weight is going to be thicker and rob you of power

keep in mind you can mix 5w-30 & 5w-40, what i do during the summer only is mix 2 0r 3 quarts of 5w-40 at oil change.

Is it true that as your car gets old (more mileage), you need to get thicker oil?

Thanks fsttyms1 !
So this is the Mobil 1 Extended Performance (5w-30) with the yellow cap. And I'm guessing you sent it to Blackstone Labs.

5w20 is hard to find in Lincoln, NE. My 1st change I found some Mobil 1, 0w20 at Walmart. They don't stock it here anymore. My second change I ended up ordering some Redline 5w20.
I thought that should be ok too.

5w30 is ok too. the only reason honda went to the 5w20 was to help meet CAFE standards

I actually have the kit. I got it a few years ago when I read your post about them. Just haven't gotten around to it.

That's very interesting. I didn't know that.

I would assume that Honda wouldn't have to try too hard to meet the CAFE standards.

But they aren't inefficient, either. I think they are definitely above industry average.

Their trucks are killing the CAFE, though. My dad's XL Denali is, if I remember right, rated at 13 mpg in the city.

GM trucks > Ford trucks

I can't remember the cD on my dad's car, but I believe the Hummer H2's cD is .43... like you said, brick in the wind.

fsttyms1, which brands of extended filters do you use/recommend.

I'm currently running Amsoil series 2000 0w-30 with an Amsoil filter on 10k changes.
