350Z vs. TL-S

Had the opportunity to see a 350z go down by a J series

I was in ontario ca. last night driving around for a little fun. I had the opportunity to see a 350 z lose to a TL-S in a street race

Silver 350Z on 19" Zauber Gettins vs. Nighthawkblack TL-S I/H/E

THey had a flagger. The "Z" driver had the nerve to put his emergencies on before they even launced. Well that "Z" learned his lesson. A 4 door smashed ON HIM! LoL!

2 car lengths immediatly... Im thinkin this guy thought he was so fast, that he didnt even care to launch his car....

I know a 350 Z will smoke a TL-S, just thought it was a funny story...

Everyone around me was suprised, " damn how the hell did that TL beat the 350Z? Hes squeezing! LoL!"

Sounds good, but we know who would have really won the race. I am test drove the G35 and I am thinking of trading my TLS. My 2cents

G35s and TLS are neck and neck. Coupe and Z would beat the TLS. TLS with I/H/E would be a good race against the Z and G35c.

ferizzo, I am a big TL-S fan and to tell you the truth the G35 coupe is just to much for the TL-S to handle (even w/ mods). The only thing that turns me off about the G35 coupe is that the seat controll buttons are cut into the seats. Other than that the coupe is much more of a car than the TLS. The sedan is a different story even dough its braking system and capablites of handling the road is better the TLS is neck and neck with the sedan. I will be standing by for the new TL's, before I make my decision.

2fasttls....better question is how does the G35 compare to the CLS? I haven't driven either the CLS or G35 (6 speed to 6 speed is what I would care about) so I'm interested to know how handling dynamics compare. I think the materials and style inside the CLS/TLS are better than the Infinity stuff personally, but that's a bit subjective.

CL/TL have much better interior than the G35 C/S.

As far as handling goes, the G35 C/S will most likely win, because of its RWD configuration, and overall, it's more geared towards "sport".

Haven't driven the G35 C/S yet, but I have checked it out at the auto show, and the interior was disappointing. I did not feel comfortable at all.

So recent #s for the 350Z and G35C (6-speeds) indicate mid-5 second 0-60 times (5.5 for a broken-in G35C and 5.4-5.6 for the 350Z). Are you trying to tell me that a TL-S with I/H/E is a mid-5 second car?!

Here's are some quotes from C&D just so you don't think I'm making these #s up:

G35 Coupe

Clocking 14.2 seconds at 100 mph in the quarter-mile, this G coupe was quicker than the last 350Z we tested (December 2002), despite being 137 pounds heavier (3500 versus 3363) and motivated by seven fewer ponies (280 versus 287). With 60 mph available in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 155, this is one fast coupe.
350Z

We're delighted to report that this hardware makes for more than an impressive spec sheet. How does this sound: 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 14.1 seconds at 101 mph? How about 0.88 g of cornering stick, a stopping distance from 70 mph to standstill in 164 feet, and a top speed of 156 mph? That's essentially the same performance as a Porsche Boxster S, which has a base price of more than 50 grand.

Talking You Got Lucky!

Well bro I just have to say you got lucky! as our second car me and my partner just purchased a 350z, all I have to say is that the bitc% is fast..... It pulls me on the highway like if I was standing still..... and compared to my old S2000 it feels faster, and pulls stronger... My TL cant beat a s2000, so I know that a TL w/ I/H/E. just got lucky against a bad driver.......

Yes that is what I am saying. I think a TLS with i/h/e is a high-5 to low 6 0-60. I am also saying that in a quarter mile the modded TLS is probably a mid-14 to high-14 second car. Why is it so hard to think that a mid 14 second car can hang with a 14.2 second G? Am I missing something here? Now if you take an auto G why is it so incomprehensible to think that the TLS would have a good race. What part of "good race" did you misunderstand? I didn't say the TLS was an all out sports car...nor did I say it beats either car (I just reread my post to make sure about what I wrote). I also didn't realize that every driver of a Z or a G35c is a professional race car driver and knows what they are doing. My bad.

2fasttls, I disagree to some degree but I do think the G35c and Z are two awesome cars and overall much sportier than the TLS. It goes without saying that the Z will outhandle and even out hustle the TLS with an above average driver.

I saw two Zs yesterday at work and the car does look good (except for that gold color). As I was walking to my car I saw a blue one pull in and checked it out. Then when the driver got out and I got into my car he checked mine out as I rolled off.

I'm with Ferizzo...
Didn't C/D say our car was a 6.2 or 6.4 second car sub 14 second car? With i/h/e and even a little spring or light wheel help you are going to significantly affect your time. Aren't there countless posts here with time slips of cars hovering mid 14's, at least, with mods? You may even have a certain TL-S with a little extra spunk and no one can argue an auto has less driver error...
I hate those C/D tests with sticks...Have you ever tried to duplicate THEIR times in the same car? Quite freakin' hard...
I only say this as I have eaten both a stick Z on the highway and a G35 sedan in my office complex (regularly) which happens to be an auto. When I say "eaten", I mean it. Two and 3 car lenghts of pulls on either...The guy with the G35 and I mess around at least two or three times a week leaving work at the same time, and his car will definately outhandle mine, but will not accelerate it at all...He's miffed and looking for mods...
Stock for stock, I agree--there is no contest with a TL-S and a stick in either car and it is a closer race with an auto, but simply assuming a Z or G can out-accelerate a modded TL-S appears off base...

Thanks r10apple. Oh and I don't wanna hear this "equal driver" bullsh!t either because no two drivers and situations will always be the same! I agree that a G35-6 and Z-6 is a faster car than the TLS but once you add a driver it can all change!

there are TL/CL-s people on both boards who run low 14s, (14.2 -14.3) with I/H no E...

we all know the 350 an dthe G35 are quick, but with mods i think its an ok race not a killing, so stop ride the 350/G35 Dik...
