It's not absolutely neccersary to get that service, you don't need a tune-up until 100,000 miles so everything else is overkill IMHO. Follow the chart in the manual and don't worry about those dealer backed service requirements. Remember guys these are Honda products they last forever that's why the dealer sends those service thingys out to you. To make you believe that the car will break down if you don't get it. Its a scam i tell you, a scam!

I KNEW this was going to happen as soon as I saw your post. A lot of people are very strongly against the regular service visits. Me, I just bend over and let Acura do its thing. Crazy me.

I just figure that it akes me feel better to at least do the major services, and I take care of the oil changes in between. My TL is checked out regularly by me and every-so-often, a little more detailed by my trusted Acura dealership (I know some of you don't have this available, and for that I am sorry).
End result? It may be the same as the guys who don't maintain, or do everything themselves, but my Honda/Acura cars have always lasted me over 130k miles w/o any . real problems. Ultimately, its your call.
One last note - a non-dealer can do all the "major" service steps for several hundred less, so if you have access to a trusted mechanic that knows your car...

About the big bucks: Don't allow the dealer to do more service than is called for in your manual!

I took my car back to the dealership for 15K service, and they changed the tranny oil and air filter. Plus they put some non-acura oil additives in. I let them "have it", and they promptly refunded my money for the unnecessary items. Better to have that understood up front, though.

The more expensive maintenance for the TL actually comes at 45K, where the brake fluid and coolant is changed.

Shop around dealerships if you can. Fax them your a copy of your service manual page, with the items circled, and have them let you know what it is by phone. Do this with several area dealerships, and see how they compare. You might be suprised!
