3.2tl is totalled, deciding on a new car

my 3.2tl is totalled. i'm thinking about a new car. the new 3.2tl's are nice but the price is a little beefy compared to what i bought my car new for, which was 27,000, on the road. the insurance wants to pay me $22,286.10 but i'm still debating. my car has 36k on it btw. i'm looking into a g35 w/o leather. they sticker for $28,000 and come with all the options i need. i hate leather and this way i don't have to pay extra for something i don't like. i also don't have to pay an extra $900 for a bose system which will probably be upgraded in the future. any ideas on any cars i should consider? i might also look into a 2003 left over type-s (new) if there are any on the lot. maybe i can get a good deal. i'm looking into spending around $28,000. the cars i'm considering are all new and they are:

2004 tl-doubt i can get a good deal
2003 tl, tl type-s-end of year left overs
G35:maybe a 2003 left over
2004 maxima se

all these will be new purchases. if anybody has any suggestions, please share them with me.

thanks

I think the TSX has leather standard, I'd check that car out too.

You'll probably have a better deal with leftover 03 TL-S. They might combine a good interest rate and they are more flexible with the price since they wanto to clear them out. I would be too leery of any 04s however, for me I wouldn't touch any first year models. With experience, they just have too many problems that come out that they end up fixing 2-3 years down the road.

If you fancy the G35 (RWD) also look at year old Lexus GS 300/ 400s, much better car. Or the ES 300 if you were happy with your 01 TL. Should be the same platform.

IMO you have to look past the 04 as just being a "newer and better" model and some people would say "much better than the 03". Car evolution shows that newer models offer "more". But the sense of the word does come with a price. All the bells and whistles you see on the 04 will be commonplace by the time the end of its model comes out (4-5 years). If you can't care enough for resale and change your car every 3 years, then maybe any 04 is good for you. Long-term use is another question. I'd much rather have an 03 with all the bugs ironed out (better resale value), than an 04 full of bugs (hurts resale value).

I'm not blasting the 04, just that it's too early to say that it's going to be less of a problem-free car than the previous one.

You can't go wrong with the G35 coupe 6MT; Aero Package and the wing is a must, IMO...Good Luck.

the rwd is a concern to me. but there are many cars out there on the roads with rwd. i would think the g35 should be somewheat decent in the winter since it has a 53/47 weight destribution. what do you guys think of the 04 maxima se. seems like nissan did a nice job of resdesigning it.

Being from MD (17yrs) up until last year, winters aren't bad at all. The last time it snowed hard in MD was during the blizzard of '96. Yeah, there's a little bit of accumulation here and there, but nothing to worry about. I'd worry more about the dumb*ss drivers!

I was looking into the '04 Max prior to purchasing my '03 TL-S. The 6spd lured me in and I started to fool myself into thinking I liked the bodystyle. Luckily, none of the local Nissan dealerships here in Arizona could locate the color and options I wanted. I sure am glad I skipped on the '04 Max; honestly, I cringe everytime I see one on the road. '03 TL-S is a good choice, because you'll get one helluva deal if you can find one. There's an '03 WDP TLS at the local dealership here in AZ, the last one in their inventory. Good luck...

Do you want performance or just an entry-level luxury sedan? The G35 is certainly performance. An IS300 can be had below $30k with the options you are deleting as could a BMW. You could likely get a certified, pre-owned Lexus ES for around $30k and they have financing deals in Florida right now and might where you live. TL-S's are abundant on the lot here in Florida, and you certainly can get a good interest rate and expect to may no more than $28,500...

I'd stay away from the Nissan only for one reason: You can get a better warranty, better service/customer service and better quality/features for the same price with the vehicles above...Just my $0.98...

Thats more than 1 reason:cop: just messing with ya, I would stay away from the 04 Max as well the 03 was the last good quality/sporty looking Max.

When I got my transmission replaced I had an 04 Maxima as a loaner, I loved it because I was able to toss it around and know it wan't my car but I hated it because it wasn't a TL. The maxima is very very floaty, bad suspension, decent power after a slow acceleration. and the seats just wasn't very comfortable. The display is facing the REAR of the car and not the driver so if you want to change something you actually have to lean forward to get to that button. Maxima wouldn't even be an option for me. just my $.02 though.
Personally, I'd go with the 04 TL.
G35 has a cheap interior and is RWD.
