Angry 2nd Transmission FAILED!! ARGGGH!!!

Hello guys,

I just joined the forum today but have been a long time broswer of it .
Well, over the 4th of July weekend I was stopped at a red light, then it turns green, so I start to accelerate (By the way i was not in SS mode) 1st gear kicks in OK, 2nd gear kicks in OK, 3rd is completly missed. The RPMS starts going so high in the danger zone that I have to stop accelerating. So I stop, then I try again to accelerate, same damn thing only this time my car starts to jerk violently as if a was a bad Stick Shift driver. All I was saying to myself was "NO, DAMN IT DAMN IT! THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING AGAIN!! F--k" So I call my Acura dealer and they said to bring it in right away (of course). So they gave me an RSX loaner until they can find out what exactly is wrong, which I know what the hell is wrong. I won't hear from them until late Monday afternoon. I am SO PISSED OFF. I think I might have to abandon ship on ACURA or maybe wait for the 2004. Well any way I just had to fume off guys. Man am I pissed!

What do you think I should do?

Should I sell it and get a 2003?

Or maybe get the new 2004 Maxima.

Or the G35.

HELP!!

Sorry to hear this.

Where did you take the car to? Keyes? If so, how is their service?

Talking

No just the RSX. I wish it was the TYPE-S. It's still pretty peppy in the SS mode. You guys are right. I definitely will take out my frustrations on the RSX. I already am actually. As a matter of fact I going out right now. I think I'll go and smoke a COBRA. HEE HEE.

To Twenty03 Type-S:

I take mine to Acura 101 West in Calabasas. They have been good to me so far. I like their facility. It's nice clean newly remodeled, and they send me coupons like crazy. There OK

Thanks for the info on 101 West. I purchased mine from Keyes and wonder which service department people in L.A. would recommend.

Hmm, i bought my TL at 101 West, i've been getting rather ****ty service from their service department.. ever since that guy Mike left anyway, he was a good guy.. the other guys are crap, only Miguel is sorta alright.

I've been meaning to talk to the manager about this.

Actually I forgot about this one guy who was kind of a smart ass named Fernando. He started off cool. Then he started questioning me about my 1st tranny problem and my rotors being warped implying/hinting that it might of been ME that caused the problem. I just looked at him STONE FACED without saying a word and he of course fixed the problem. Then a month later I find out he left or something. That was one incident that I can recall. The manager back then was MAX and he was cool to me. Well I guess it's just comes down to good luck or bad luck or what mood people are in in this world. Kinda sucks I guess.
Any way.

From my understanding Keyes in Van Nuys has a pretty good reputation. Granted, I don't want to visit them (or anyone else) with a transmission and/or rotor problem.

I will say, I can't give enough praise to their sales department when I bought my TL. They were awesome.

Same for 101 West, good sales service, not pushy at all and good info, apart from the fact that they forgot to tell me that the car drinks premium.

Service is a different thing. I think it's still Max, i'll give that dude a call one of these days to set up an appointment. If i get an "upper scale" car like the Acura, i expect good service.

How much do would you think I could get for my TYPE S if I were to sell it? Keep in mind that this will be the 3rd transmission (which will hurt the resale value. Right?) Here are the specs:

2002 TL TYPES (without NAVI)

23,000 miles

Nighthawk black Pearl

Factory underbody KIT

Rear Spoiler

Chrome Factory RIMS

That's about it. Immaculate condition.

Trying to sell a used TL is very hard right now. You're probably not going to get as much as you would like... here's why: dealerships are dealing on the 2003 TL's because of the upcoming body change for the 2004 model. I started looking for a 2002 Type-S but after realizing I could get a brand new 2003 for what my budget was, well, the rest is history.

ya believe me i was just in the market for a 02 typeS back in feb. and found mine on a chrysler lot right next door to valencia acura where the car was originaly bought and serviced.
A 02 w/nav and premium whls. 28k easy miles on it. for $22k. no haggling involved. the poor sap that traded it in on a mini van got hit with a $12k+ lose on his one year old car.
this was 6 mons ago so the prices are bound to be lower now.

TL--your new tranny oghtta have the new computer to go with it so you should be fine...I'd stay with the car for now as you take way too much of a hit otherwise...

I got my new tranny almost 6 or 7 months ago .. my car runs better than new... don't know why you're all freaking out over the tranny failing (specially you '02 owners) when you've all been reading posts about it for over a year now...

Why would I take a massive hit on my car when I just received an extended tranny warranty from Acura and the car is currently running fine???

You guys must have $$$ to burn .. mine is hard-earned and I value each and every penny... best of luck

Bottom line... if Acura takes care of any problem (whether transmission or rotors or ....) I don't care. Acura has been great and don't have ANY doubts about my purchase.

After four years and my third car, I think I'm finally found my ride.

Mr PeterUbers

Look the fact is you're right about, the EXTENDED WARRANTY so we shouldn't complain. "BUT"

Also, The truth is, I don't have $$$ to burn and I do value each and every penny so I will have to unfortunatly keep this car and pray that it does not happen again.

Look Warrenty or not It's still frustrating man. This shouldn't be happening at all. It's not like we all go out and buy a car and then it's expected that the TRANSMISSION will go out twice in 23,000 miles. Look i'm just a little upset that this will be on my cars record (2 trannys fixed) and should I decide to sell it down the road it will make people RUN FOR THERE LIVES once they look up the history. That's what hurts too. Here is a quote from one of our fellow forum members named StaceyBrent:

"The extended warranty Honda/Acura is now offering is not going to increase your resale value - word is already out to avoid these vehicles! Although we love the car otherwise, I wouldn't buy one used! " (2002TLS)

I kind of agree with her quote guys.

See ya!

Twenty03 Type-S

In the end I will ultimately agree

"if Acura takes care of any problem (whether transmission or rotors or ....) I don't care"

Although I do kinda of care. I DON'T WANT MY CAR TO HAVE PROBLEMS! At least not often or anything MAJOR.

I just want to bring it in for the scheduled oil change.

DON'T WE ALL.

I agree dude. I really do love my ACURA. I am a ACURA LOVER. I am excited about the 2004 already.

late.

Frustrating is right as it shouldn't happen. But, it is being taken care of. Likewise, if you trade on another Acura--especially at the same dealer that repaired your tranny, they have NO ROOM to bust your chops on your tranny. It's THEIR product you are trading and THEIR repair job.
That being said, I still wouldn't take a hit and trade your car this early on another Acura or anything else. And I, totally agree with PeterUbers that the new tranny is better than when my car was new. Way better...

r10apple,

WORD! I do agree. In that case I can't wait to try out the NEW tranny next week when i get it back. And I also agree not to take a such a big hit on my car. I'm sure it will be fine.

**** .. I don't believe that acura has resolved the problem .. they are just bandaiding the tranny issue to make people feel good (until their 7 yr/100k warranty obligations are done .. then they'll soak you for $4k for replacements) .. getting a rebuilt tranny .. blahhh .. and they smile at you like they are doing you a favor .. blahhh.

but look at it his way .. when lexus owners have their cars for 5 or 6 years and 80-90k miles, they'll still be on their old .. original tranny .. whereas the CL/TL owners will be on what .. 5 or 6? With Acura putting in their 9 or 10th production fix to try to resolve this problem ..

You should've just sprayed NOS on your car just to put the tranny out of it's misery.

The same exact thing just happened to me regarding the shift pattern. However, it only happens here and there (Every other day etc..). I want to take it in but I am afraid that they will not be able to make it happen again.

Any suggestions??
