2nd Gear Question

I was experimenting with the SS mode in my tl-s and was figuring it out. The Rev limiter did not cut me out at 2nd gear, in fact it let me go beyond the red line. When i got to 6500ish I shifted, but how high, when trying to accelerate fast of a jump or from a roll, should you let it go into second gear before shifting up? It seemed when I shifted from 6500 it certainly jumped quickly, but I don't want to cause damage from going to far into the red line.

There is a revlimiter in every gear. You simply didnt hit it. You wont cause damage.

I've gotten to 6800 in 2nd and 3rd w/ out throwing any warnings.
The first time I did it (by accident) the malfunction indicator light flashed a few times (and that was at ~6200rpm). But since then, I've done it a few times and no lights came on and the car ran great. I guess the computer learned it?

If the light flashed a few times it was a misfire code.

6800 RPM is when the redline kicks in. I haven't been to the track in a while but you can definitely go into the 7000s easily with no warnings either. I hit the rev limiter a few times and you can actually hit higher than the rev limiter. At the track, I did so by gate shifting at the point the rev limiter kicks in at (don't remember since I haven't been in awhile), so when you shift there is a delay and you can squeeze out another few 100 RPM.

On the side note, keep the racing to the track

Oh yea. I was just doing what twighunter00 was doing. Seeing how the car reacted at different points. Def not racing or near any other cars for that matter. I'm not into that. Actually, the first time I was passing a dump truck as it was spewing debris out the back. Had to high tail it out of there...

Exactly how do you hit higher than the revlimiter? The ECU wont let you.

Maybe it was in my mind, but after a few runs I got an idea of when the rev limiter kicked in. So right before the rev limiter would kick in, I would gate shift. But it could have actually shifted right AT the rev limit.

Sorry if I gave any misinformation. It just seemed to me that it actually hit 100~200 extra RPMS from what I THOUGHT was when the rev limiter kick in.

There is a big difference between the red marks on the tach and the revlimiter. The revlimiter is controlled by the ecu. You cant rev the motor beyond it (with out having a manual and down shifting to a lower gear than you should) Put it in 2nd and floor it and dont shift. let it hit the revlimiter, you will see where the limiter is. You wont do any damage to the motor so dont worry.

Just wanted to make a point, the ecu cuts out fuel/spark but doesn't control how high the engine revs.

As you stated fsttyms1, one time in my Accord with a H22A I was on the highway with 3rd maxed and instead of going to 4th through it in 2nd. True it hit the rev limiter, but the motor still went past the 7500 rpm without spark/fuel. Second gear isn't made to go 110.
