2003 TL-S Navi System

Hey all,
I know, from looking at other threads, that it seems a 03 TL-S can have a Navi system, but I had some more specific questions....

After driving my in-laws 05 RL I am completely in love and would love to have a Navi system. Now, my current Acura TL 03 S doesn't have one in it....so

1) Can I put one in?

2) Where would it go in the dash? and if it is where my Vent/air stuff is, will that screw it all up?

3) How much will it cost, roughly to have someone do it?

4) Can only Acura Dealership install it?

5) Is it better for me to get a Best Buy one and mount it instead?

thanks for your help guys...the quicker info the better!

search option is your friend https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/d-i-y-non-navi-navi-573887/

I was looking into installing the oem navi, but in the end its really not worth it.

It's a lot of money. Going with the Navi to start with would be a much cheaper route.

expensive, takes ALOT of time, and you have to be pretty familiar with wiring, etc. So I decided to just got with a double din navi so it still looks factory.

Our Navi's are a little outdated and slow. They come in handy but you might wanna go with something aftermarket.

yup, I have factory NAVI and it is a dated type of system. It has served me well over the years, but the new portable versions are much better and cheaper to keep up to date. $185 every 2-3 years to keep our oem navi updated is hella expensive and I plan on getting a new portable unit to bring with me on trips. I got to see a Harmon Kardon 810 navi unit in action this weekend and I was very impressed. $329 at buy.com right now and it has a 4.3" screen, mp3 and video player, XM nav traffic ready, nice window mount, internal lithium rechargeable battery, and tons of other features...I think to put in an OEM navi is just not worth it...the 3rd Gen TL and 4th Gen have far superior NAVI systems than our 2nd Gens!

I don't know what dealer you usually go to, but thus far, while I've had people at Mile High say my car looked good, the Service Manager avoided talking about modifications. Courtesy just straight up sucks, so I don't bother going there. I would say there's a 99% chance that the dealer would NOT do this.

On the topic of updates for 2G OEM navi systems:

Do they still come out with updates for ours every year? I run into newly developed areas from time to time where I was in the middle of nowhere according to the navi lol.

And when you update them, is it just the maps of the new roads etc. that get updated......or is there a whole new different interface display or system?
