2003 acura 3.2 tl type s ignition problem

Key works in doors but when in the ignition it will not turn at all. Have moved wheel etc..is my ignition out?? Has anyone else had this problem? Worked fine until now, no problems what so ever. Any help is appreciated before I call a shop for a new ignition. Thank you

1. Try any other keys that you have.

2. Squirt a short blast of WD-40 through a snorkel tube into the key slot.

Give your steering wheel a good tug to one side or the other to free up pressure on the ignition shaft (i.e. hold the wheel to the side and turn the key).

Also try giving your shifter a wiggle.

My key wouldn't turn a few weeks back and doing this got it working again, haven't had the issue come back.

Tried this and nothing. Won't budge. Had to have a new key made a few weeks ago because we lost original. That key worked great till now. Have found original and it didn't work at all. The new key is a little different. I'm trying to figure out if the locksmith can fix this or if my ignition is done. Thanks

Most likely your key cylinder where the tumblers are located are bad. The only fix is a new cylinder. The new keys will have to be programmed to the ecu.

Try lightly sanding/filing the high points of the key to wear them down slightly. Do one at a time and try it in between each filing.

hey rjblondie,

i just had this similar problem couple weeks ago.
check out this thread.

if your key wont turn at all once inside the ignition cylinder, you probably have to replace the key cylinder itself due to the tumblers being worn out.
once the new cylinder is replaced, you have to program the new keys that come with it.

goodluck
