it maybe the side airbag sensor... it is covered under acura warranty 10yrs/150Kmiles. I had the similar thing happen. I drove my car around until I picked up a buddy of mine, he got in, and as I turn on the car, BAM the SRS light comes on. Did the reset myself and it didnt work... good luck though!

ok here is whats happening-
If you have not done any electrical work- wiring work on the car, then its 99% its one of the parts in the SRS system thats covered by special extended warranty
If you did any work try the reset method

If you have already tried the reset method here on azine- and light came back-or light came on by itself--
call dealer for appointment
there are 5 of 6 parts in the system that are covered, and 99.99% its one of those parts- thats a quote from service managers that are on here
Its a safety issue- and its free

yes- they have to do a regular work order for diagnosis- 1 hour charge- AND when its found to be warranty problem a new work order is made- acura pays the diagnosis and parts and labor- you pay nothing

when the red srs light is on you have NO airbags

May take a day or two to get parts.
also check the driver seatbelt retraction- does it retract? thats another covered problem 10year 150kmiles so let them know if its acting up

01tl4tl speaks the truth. I hear so many people excuse the SRS light in all makes and models as "an electrical glitch" or something that means nothing. The SRS system is an all or nothing proposition. If the SRS light is on, the system is not ready and will not activate in a crash - this includes all airbags and seat belt pretensioners.

Not worth the risk, IMO.

thats what I was looking for, it wont reset. I just stays on solid. I did not do any modifications to the car as of yet that would cause me to think its something I did. Now im not the original owner of the car and its past 150k miles (156k) will acura still warranty the parts and labor?

Same problem but no love on the warranty on mine...

My dealer said I have to replace the SRS control unit (not covered by the warranty which is still in place for the OBD and the side air bag stuff) $400 somethin for the SRS control unit and $300 somethin for the labor... lookin for a more cost effective way to get this done... I don't have the knowledge/tools/time to dig into thedash myself or I'd consider it - people here have said it's plug and play...

Ep3- go in person and speak with the service MANAGER
tell them you read about this SRS problem on acurazine, and can they get some goodwill for you-- with it being just over miles--

many of the TLs are known to have 5% fast reading mileage -court case proven~
so the manager can write down whatever they want, or calls the regional acura rep for approval.

tell them how much you love your acura and have recommended the brand to friends!
acura likes loyalty

Steen: same thing but go to corp with a written mailed letter expressing disappointment in this part not being covered and such a safety issue
Ask for $100 copay by you and acura pays the rest- see what they say

My dad has a 2001 Acura TL with only 45k miles. He's the original owner and hardly drives it. Do yall know if the SRS light will still be covered? THanks

Yes, lifetime warranty but charge $125 diagnosis. O'rilley auto scanned mine and it was a seatbelt sensor for passenger seat. Has to be a good scanner that reads Honda SRS, not all scanners do. This reset my light even though they said the could not reset it. I think there is a fuse #15 (dash clock fuse) on the passenger side that is a hard reset for the computer also. There are ways to take apart the seat belt buckle and clean the switch, works half the time. I bought a new seatbelt buckle off ebay for $70 and changed it in ten minutes. Good for the last year. Money savings was not so important, but My dealer is an hour away and they would not order the part until they scanned it. Would have been two trips there and a week to get the part. Hope this helps, I learned about this from the CL forum and hope to pass it forward. Thanks
