1999 TL or 2000?

hmmm yes i am looking to buy a TL but dont know which one. Wondering if it really matters. I have heard about the tranny problems. After i sell my 94 BMW 318i i shall buy one. Anyone have any comments on this? That will help me find which one to buy?

The '99 is .5 seconds slower to 60mph in most tests. The '00 also gets about one more mpg because of the five speed. The '00 also has side airbags which the '99 does not. So yes, there is a big difference between the two.

If .5 seconds doesn't sound like a huge difference .3 seconds is enough for most people to notice-so not huge but everone on this board would notice.

99's feel slower, 5 speed vs. 4 speed. SS sucks on 4 speed, no much room to play with. There are a lot of little updates done to the 00, persoanlly I would get a 00'

Personally i like my '99 over a '00... I do with i had the side airbags, but i like my tranny over the 5-speed. It is a hair slower than the 5 speed, but i have full control over 1st gear in SS so i dont have to gate shift. BSing with a few of the guys at the dealership, they said they like the '99 better cause it "lasts longer" and was "built better" according to them. dont know if thats true, but whatever.

Either way, you cant go wrong, and you will be happy.

I like the 99 better too...built better....lasts longer....less tranny problems... go for 99 in good condition low millage (not less then 35k no more then 80k)

99 is the way to go, unless you got the money to buy a brand new one

.5 just doesnt sound right to me... My buddie just leased a '03 TL-P a few months ago, and we have raced multiple times under different conditions, and were neck and neck the entire time... and that was even before i got intake...

i have a 99 and killed my friends 200 because he couldnt downshift into second and i was holding first. I also kileed him again on the highway when he hit 4th gear at like 90 and i was sitting in third when i shut down at 115. Now that i have intake and headers i'm in a whole different ball game.

If you thinking about getting TL with Navigation system, you should definately get 00 or higher.

i really dont care what car he gets, but i just hate when people shut down the 99's like they are really slower. The cars are so close performance wise that its all on who can launch better off the line. On the highway the 99's can hold 3rd way longer. Me and binh were doing like 130 in 3rd today and we both have 99's.
