1999 Acura TL Security System Problem
1999 Acura TL Security System Problem
Hello,
My car had to visit a body shop to get the doors replaced. The car was returned, but has an issue that was not present before. That is, that if every other door is locked except for the driver's door, and the hood and trunk remain closed, the security system arms itself even if the driver's door is unlocked. If you drive somewhere, stop the car, reach over and pull the lock plunger up manually, get out, leave the lock plunger up (unlocked), shut the door, you see the LED's start the long slow blink pattern that it is arming, and then the short flashes with longer duration between saying it is armed. Then you open the unlocked door, the alarm goes off. A way to prevent this from happening is to have any other door unlocked, or the hood ajar - then the alarm will not set (expected behavior I think).
We almost never use the remotes with the car, and have always manually unlocked / locked this way, and never had this issue. The body shop technicians seemed lost with the problem, and I will end up taking it back to them for corrections. I would like to provide any information I could to help.
From what I was told, the guts inside both driver's side doors were swapped to the new door shells. To me, it acts like the door always thinks it is locked in terms of the security system. I should add that you can prevent the alarm from going off with the unlocked drivers door by going through the motions with the key as though you are unlocking the door. Then you see the LED for security go off and opening the door does not set off the alarm.
Thank you for any assistance.

I believe there's a wire going to the door lock actuator that senses when the door is locked or not. They probably just forgot to plug that in or something. Either way, the car obviously thinks the door is locked even though it's not, and this is an easy fix for any half competent mechanic. Tell the body shop to get it fixed.
