Hi guys, since i have been looking for a trans for my car ive been all around looking for decent deal. Today a guy offered me an engine and trans from an 04 TL for a $1000, he is closing his shop and selling everything out. I am wondering if the swap is possible without being complicated and expensive with alterations. Obviously everything can be done for extra change but...

I know ill need a new ECU for sure. Any modification to exhaust, engine mounts, trans mounts? What else would be needed and has anyone done this?

it'll require some finagling for sure but i don't think it's a huge issue (correct me if i'm wrong)

I always wanted to put a newer 3.5 in this thing and really let it loose :-)

 

Yea 3.5 would definitely be interesting.... baaat not in my budget at all lol. The only reason why I am considering this is because it will be about the same price as me dropping a tranny in, a 2 for 1 deal never hurts

No one has done a complete swap like that. There is far too much involved with the drive by wire setup. The heads have the manifolds cast to them so there will have to be a lot of custom exhaust work to get it to work, then there is all the differences in wiring. Be the first and do it and let us all know how it goes.

Well if the tranny works, buy all of it, install the tranny and then sell the engine.

 

Too late guys, i waited for your replies but didn't get sufficient enough info in time, so today i dropped my car off at a local JDM shop. They are dropping a rebuilt tranny in it for $1500 parts and labor. 1yr/20km warranty as well.

Guy's i would have loved to drop the 04 engine and tranny in my car, but like fsttyms1 said, i knew i would have a pain in the ass with the wiring, exhaust and other elements. Am I too broke to deal with unknown and unexpected expenses? Yes, definitely yes. So I went with the safe route. Thanks for the replies guys.

 

I thought about it man, but the thing that threw me off is, after all it is a used honda trans. It had 149km on it (guy's word) and as far as i know the 04-05's still had problems. Another thing is logistics! I have no idea how i would have transported an engine and trans. Friends don't have trucks, so yea you see my point lol.
